So, you're on a diet (or are simply trying to maintain your weight) and have given up most refined carbs and sugary snacks. But red wine? Nope, that's where you draw the line. No worries: there is actually one food that you can eat with wine that's perfect — not only because its taste complements wine, but because it's rich in nutrients that offer a balance to alcohol and help keep your weight in check.

Cheese And Wine

It's no myth that cheese and wine go together — but who knew they could help keep you from snacking on less helathy foods? The slightly waxy fatty content in cheese creates a sensation in your mouth that is then balanced by the astringent taste of an acidic wine. The tannins in the wine wipe out that waxy taste and the balance found when pairing cheese and wine give a satisfying feeling that can curb your appetite and keep you from indulging in less healthy foods.

Hummus And Fruit

If you aren't crazy about cheese, or can't justify consumming the extra fat and calories, prepare a small dish of fruit and hummus and make it a point to take a few bites of the vitamin and protein packed snack in between sips of wine. These foods are healthy and will slow down the absorption of alcohol by your body.
