If you’re experiencing breakage for any number of reasons–from over-processing (aka, coloring) to over-styling, over-washing and even over-brushing, you’re not alone. Many of us have experience weakened or damaged hair at some point–especially in the summer months when sun, chlorine and salt water are abound.

If you’ve started to notice short little baby pieces around the crown of your head (and no, you haven’t always wanted a mullet), then it might be time to start doing something about it. In addition to decreasing how often you shampoo your hair (yes, Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher had it right all along), hair stylists say you can also use layered hairstyles as a solution for blending the breakage. Amazing.

“I always like to take the bulk away from the face,” hairstylist Kayla McNeill tells us of the expert-approved tip for making damaged hair feel healthier and more full. Genius!

To start, the damaged is typically focused in that crown area (bottle blondes know what I’m talking about).

Creating Texture

“With colored hair it’s easy to get damage around the front,” the founder of Head Kandy explains. “It’s where we touch the most and tend to apply the most amount of heat. Creating a light weight, textured feel softens the style while creating movement and really helps color pop to look healthy.”

Don’t believe us? Here’s how Kayla says celebrities have been using this technique as a quick fix for breakage and hair loss:

Jennifer Aniston

Kayla calls this the "Morning Show" star's "timeless look." "She's known for having light weight tendrils around her face and I love how it keeps the light and volume through her cheek bones."

Kim Kardashian

While the KKW Beauty founder is known for changing her look frequently, Kayla suggests this face-framing on to copy. "She really softens the look by creating the framing and layering around her face, and the fringe sweeping her cheeks really looks stylish while keeping those ends cleaned up from lightening the hair."

Blake Lively

"Blake looks fabulous using this face layering technique," Kayla says. The layers "help take the harshness of bulky hair away from her face," she explains--but that's not all. The color is pulling its weight, too. "Her color really looks great with the lightweight yet voluminous look," she adds.

Sofia Vergara

"Sofia looks beautiful with the sun kissed highlights and light wisps of hair around her front," Kayla notes. Indeed she does!

Keira Knightley

The "Pirates of the Caribbean" star really looks incredible using this same method. "The softer face framing helps her hair look styled and effortless, and keeping her ends trimmed around her face also keeps a very lived in texture appeal to her style," Kayla asserts.

Suki Waterhouse

"Suki looks incredible with this choppy, messy yet lightweight and airy face framing," Kayla shows. Not only is her color on point, but "I love the way her bangs are helping create that lift we all want through the front of our style." Looks so good!
