Just when we thought we’d seen it all when it comes to bizarre celebrity trends, we spotted something that gave us serious déja vu. While celebs like Jennifer Lopez and Addison Rae started bringing back the thong in a big way earlier this summer, we recently spotted even more celebs stepping out in this thong-like cutout pants trend.
If you remember Britney Spears’ “I’m a Slave 4 U” video (how could anyone forget?) and her pink-thong-over-pants look, then brace yourself for the this low-cut, cut-out pants trend featuring: Halsey.

Halsey stepped out on November 26th to attend the Lakers vs. Pistons game at the Staples Center in LA wearing this casual yet daring look. The 27-year-old “Graveyard” singer attended with their boyfriend wearing an all-black look that included a grunge tank top and THOSE studded cut-out pants. And if the trend looks familiar, it’s because celebs have been loving the bizarre thong-like cut-outs this year. Rihanna, for one, rocked the thong pants trend at the Met Gala after party. And Dua Lipa has also been a big fan of daring cut-out pants, and this pair that she shared on Instagram got SO many likes.
But who do we attribute this trend to? Well, we have to give props to Hailey Bieber for likely being the catalyst of the visible thong revival. Mrs. Bieber stunned fans back at the 2019 Met Gala wearing a pink long sleeve dress with a VERY prominent g-string that remains iconic to this day. With celebs like Halsey and Dua Lipa bringing variations of this trend back this winter, we’re sure it’ll only become a bigger trend.
