Brie Larson’s Heartbreaking Comment About ‘Captain Marvel’—We Did Not See This Coming!

Brie Larson just opened up about the future of her Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) character Carol Danvers/ Captain Marvel in a new interview with Variety, and some fans might be surprised by her words. The Oscar winner, 32, graced the red carpet at the D23 Expo Disney fan event in Anaheim, CA last week, and was asked how long she thinks she will be able to bring the beloved comic book character to life on-screen.

Larson, who has played Captain Marvel since 2019, replied, “I don’t know.” She then looked at the camera and interviewer and asked, “does anyone want me to do it again?” Twitter users who shared the new clip explained that they think she’s referring to internet trolls and haters who often spew sexist takes on the superhero, and Larson’s film portrayal.

From violent threats directed at the actress to baseless critiques that seem to have “more to do with hating a woman superhero than anything else,” as one fan wrote, it seems that Larson is directly aware of not just her vast fanbase, but online critics as well. In the interview, she repeated, “I don’t know” regarding the question of Captain Marvel’s future. The interviewer then jokingly said, “don’t be so modest,” as Larson smiled, laughed, and again repeated, “I don’t know, I really don’t know. I don’t have the answer to that.”

While online critics continue to dub Larson as “unlikeable” or “too serious,” her fans are stressing that she is the victim of utter misogyny and random hate. One fan who shared the video tweeted, “I am so sad for her. She is a great actress and we love Captain Marvel. Leave her alone.” Another wrote, “She’s being honest, blunt and direct and we love her for it.”

Before Captain Marvel came out in 2019, 20 male-led MCU movies debuted in theaters before it. Fan interest in a Black Widow film also existed for years, and was only satisfied with a 2021 movie that centered around Scarlett Johansson‘s character *after* she died in Avengers: Endgame.

While some critics often deem the outspoken, feminist and honest Larson to be “annoying” or “no fun” when she mentions critical reception to her character, Ethan Alexander for We Got This Covered writes, “There’s a clear centering on male characters made for male viewers [in the MCU] and Larson was pointing out that other perspectives need to be acknowledged.”

Fans can rest assured that we know *for sure* that Larson’s Captain Marvel is set to headline the upcoming summer 2023 flick, The Marvels along with Iman Vellani (who made her debut in the Disney+ show Ms. Marvel) and Teyonah Parris (who starred in Wandavision).

The film will center around women with superhero powers quite similar to Larson’s character, and see them ultimately team up. Other fans believe Larson’s hero will likely appear in the 2025 Avengers film, Secret Wars, as well, though there aren’t many details surrounding its plot yet.

In addition, Larson announced earlier this summer that she will take on a new role in the upcoming 2023 Fast & The Furious film, Fast X, and she appears booked, busy, and thriving. (Here’s to hoping Larson’s Captain Marvel sticks around in the MCU for as long as possible, though!)
