Carrie Underwood Says She 'Doesn't Know' If She'll Return To 'American Idol' For Another Season

The finale episode of the 23rd season of American Idol aired on May 18th, and vocalist Jamal Roberts from Mississippi was announced as the winner. Since the closing episode, many viewers of the show have said they're missing it already and are curious as to what's going to happen to the judge's panel.

This was the first time Carrie, the winner of season four, held a position as a judge on the show, and many fans were happy to see someone who had competed in the show on the panel alongside recurring judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. Throughout the season, she was praised by her fans and some loyal viewers of the show for her input and gorgeous outfits.

Since the season ended a month ago and the "Before He Cheats" singer hasn't announced any other major upcoming projects aside from a few festival appearances this summer and fall, people are beginning to wonder why she hasn't officially confirmed whether or not she'll return to the show where she had her big break. In a recent interview that she gave behind the scenes of the Idol finale, an interviewer from Entertainment Tonight asked Carrie if she would return for season 24 as a judge, and she said, "I don't know!"

"There's lots to contemplate," the mom of two added.

Fans React To Carrie's Latest Comments On Her Potential Return To 'American Idol'

Once the 42-year-old's very vague response to the interviewer hit the internet, her fans and the show began weighing in on how they felt about her potential return or departure. Some of her more hardcore supporters wrote comments encouraging her to sign on for another season of the singing competition, writing that she was one of the only reasons they continued to watch it.

"Carrie is the only reason I watched this year!" wrote a fan under the interview on YouTube.

"Loved her this season and hope she will be back next year!"

A fan who shared the same sentiments commented that they "loved Carrie on American Idol."

"Only reason I watched."

Additionally, when the show announced that it was renewed for another season on Instagram, Carrie's supporters began to flood the comments section, asking them to make sure she returns as a judge.

"Please make sure Carrie is a judge next season!" commented an Instagram user. "She is super fun."

"I'm back if @CarrieUnderwood is back!" wrote another.

"I will be back if Carrie is back!" added a user.

Another fan on Reddit said that they were "straight up watching" the show simply because Carrie was on it, proving that if she does not return, the show could lose a lot of viewers.

We will be watching and waiting to see if the Grammy winner decides to make a comeback and please her Idol fanbase or if they'll end up disappointed.
