Whenever Taylor Swift releases a new music video, her fans tend to flood the comments with praise immediately. However, not all of them were able to access her latest one right away.

This week, the popstar surprised her massive fan base when she released a surprise music video for “Opalite,” one of the hit singles off her latest album, Life of a Showgirl. The video features a star-studded cast that had the internet buzzing, but there was one issue when it first came out. It was only shared for subscribers of Spotify or Apple Music, leading those who do not have the subscriptions to slam the singer as “greedy.” Read more about the exclusive video drop and the internet’s reaction below.

Taylor Swift Releases A Music Video For 'Opalite' On Spotify & Apple Music

If there's one thing the mega-famous musician is known for, it's creating all sorts of special content for her extremely loyal fanbase. After ending the Eras Tour and doing a lot of promotion for her new album, Life of A Showgirl, which came out towards the end of last year, she took a bit of a break. Until now, that is.

On Friday, Taylor released a surprise music video for her song "Opalite," which has become one of the top tracks off her new album, as it went viral on social media platforms like TikTok. The video featured a handful of big celebrities, like Domhnall Gleeson, Greta Lee, Graham Norton, Cillian Murphy, and more. The casting was a fun treat and coincidence, considering the gang had been interviewed together on the Graham Norton Show last year.

Although the "Midnights" singer's music videos are typically uploaded to YouTube right away, this time around, she did an exclusive initial drop for Spotify and Apple Music subscribers with their new music video services. The video would be available for everyone else two days later, on Sunday, February 8th.

Social Media Users Slam Taylor As 'Greedy' Following Her Music Video Drop

Once the future Mrs. Kelce revealed that she was not only dropping her new music video, but also releasing it for the music streaming platform subscribers at first. The internet quickly started to buzz, as there were numerous fans who were disappointed they couldn't access it right away.

Although it hasn't been confirmed, many are speculating that the exclusive drop has to do with the Billboard charts, as now, YouTube music video views no longer count for the Billboard Top 100 chart. As internet users sat with this information and the speculation that this was the main reason Taylor was waiting to put the video on YouTube, many of them expressed their disappointment on platforms like X.

"I was looking for the opalite video, and it turns out it's only available on Spotify Premium. I had to watch a recording someone uploaded here from their phone," wrote a fan on X.

"Releasing the music video on Spotify and Apple Music instead of YouTube, all because she wants the number 1 song, is so greedy," added another.

"You gotta stream it on Spotify so it counts," ecohed a user. "She is so greedy."
