Do you ever find yourself applying chapstick over and over again? If you do, it's probably because your chapstick is doing more damage than good. Chapsticks often have toxic ingredients that dry your lips out, making them more chapped and irritable than ever. If your chapstick contains any of THESE ingredients, it may be making your lips worse!

Hyaluronic Acid

You may have heard of this ingredient in beauty products. But according to dermatologist Leslie Baumann, it's not something you want to put on your lips. “These ingredients pull moisture out of the skin, especially in a dry environment, and then the water evaporates away," she says.

If your chapstick contains these ingredients, it might be working against you and drying your lips out even more. Instead, opt for chapstick with natural ingredients, for soft, moisturized lips!

Camphor

Camphor might be in your chapstick if you have a cooling sensation after applying, creating a "soothing" effect. But, according to dermatologist Gary Slaughter, camphor is one ingredient that actually dries out your lips.

Menthol

We all love mint scented and flavored chapsticks. But, according to Dr. Slaughter, menthol is another ingredient that might be drying out your lips. Menthol, like most substances ending in "OL", contain alcohol that can further irritate lips.
