During his Melbourne, Australia concert on October 29th, Charlie Puth paid tribute to the late Matthew Perry who had tragically passed away at the age of 54 the day before. Charlie Puth Moves Fans On TikTok With ‘Friends’ Theme Song Cover In Honor Of Matthew Perry
Before beginning his live medley, Puth, 31, said to the crowd at his concert: “I want to dedicate this song to another song and if it makes you think of a person that’s who it’s dedicated to.” He then asked: “Does this mean anything to you?” while playing the opening notes to the Friends anthem as the audience whistled, clapped and cheered.
The clip was also shared to X (formerly Twitter) where fans also commended Puth for his touching tribute to Perry, who was found dead over the weekend at his Pacific Palisades home. “Wow actually crying this is so sweet,” one tweeted regarding Puth’s gesture as another added that it made them “burst into tears.”
Someone else wrote: “Ugh I’m crying. MP was so special. I sincerely hope he rests peacefully.” One other replied: “My love Charlie Puth paid tribute to Matthew Perry at his concert today during his tour and it was beautiful.”
Puth is currently playing shows across the globe as part of his "Charlie Live Experience" tour, with his next date taking place on November 1st in Sydney, Australia at the Aware Super Theatre. On November 4th, the "One Call Away" hitmaker will head to Auckalnd, New Zealand to perform at the Spark Arena.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of death for Perry, but it is expected to take some time. The Fools Rush In star was reported to be in a hot tub and not breathing when officials received a medical call from his home overlooking the Pacific Ocean on October 28th. The identity of the caller has not been disclosed. Emergency services arrived on the scene within minutes, but unfortunately, Perry could not be revived.
The Los Angeles County coroner’s office is conducting an investigation, which is likely to take several months. The autopsy has been completed, but the cause of death has been "deferred." Law enforcement sources also told the Los Angeles Times that no illicit drugs were found in Perry's home.
As the head of the Robbery Homicide Division tasked with investigating Perry's death, LAPD Captain Scot Williams stated on October 29th that although the exact cause of death remains unknown and may take some time to determine, there is currently no suspicion of foul play.
