Many TikTok trends have become mainstream beauty practices and Geneva Fong, makeup artist and Creative Director of Dome Beauty, has adopted some tricks into her makeup routine. “Apply concealer on the undereye area, just below the inner corner. Next, apply concealer on the outer corner below the iris in a line. Blend this together delicately with a brush,” she explains, noting to avoid drawing a sweeping line of product under your eye. “This method prevents you from applying too much concealer and creates a lifted effect. This method adds lift by using concealer as a lighting technique.
When applying concealer to lift your face you don’t want to overwhelm your complexion with excess product, creating a cakey effect on your skin. This lighter-handed application will draw attention to the higher points of your face, brightening the space under your eyes and lifting your appearance. “10 years ago, we did the inverted triangle method but this made the cheekbone appear lower or more sunken. With this TikTok technique, the light or concealer is concentrated only on the areas that matter (dark circles) and make the cheekbone appear higher,” explains Fong.
Searching for the perfect concealer to try out your new skills with? Fong has some suggestions. “Lighter formulas work great (like the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer) and avoid anything too waxy or emollient because they have a tendency to settle into lines over time. If you’re using a stick concealer (like Cle de Peau), warm it up between your fingers. This will make the application a lot smoother and prevent you from overapplying.” She also suggests investing in a good setting powder to apply overtop your concealer to ensure the product stays put throughout the day without creasing.
