Demi Lovato is a well known beauty chameleon, and the 28-year-old singer just changed up their look once again after making a dramatic chop in November. Lovato has rocked just about every hairstyle in the book from long blonde extensions to pink strands, but on May 27 they showed up to the iHeart Radio Music Awards rocking the most daring look to date. Showing off a dark do chopped into a mullet, the singer, who just came out as non-binary last month, looked phenomenal.
Complimenting their new hair with a deep blue crushed velvet suit, Lovato even matched their eye makeup to the look, smoldering for the camera on the red carpet. The singer first decided to change up their hair back in November, and revealed that a shorter cut feels as though it suits their personality more. On The Ellen DeGeneres Show back in February, Lovato said of the cut, “I feel so free. I feel more authentic to who I am. I also feel like I used to hide behind my hair.”

They continued on, saying, “I used to use my hair to hide behind. It would cover my body. So when I started doing all this work on myself, I thought, ‘What is something that I’ve been holding onto my whole life that I need to let go of?’ And it was that. I feel more myself now.”
Lovato’s burgeoning confidence was apparent as they belted out a cover of Elton John’s “I’m Still Standing” to honor the 74-year-old singer at the awards. For the performance, they changed into another power suit, this time embellished with rhinestone flowers and matching sunglasses to compliment the equally powerful haircut. Lovato has been working on finding themself over the last year, and after coming out as non-binary in May, it’s clear they’re on the right track.
