Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was visiting the United States for a meeting with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance so they could sign an agreement that would give the US access to Ukraine’s mineral resources. The meeting began with Trump assuring reporters that they’re planning on signing the natural resources agreement and make progress on negotiating a peace deal. However, the meeting quickly turned sour, when Trump and Vance began accusing Zelenskyy of being “disrespectful” for trying to talk about policy in front of American journalists.
“Right now, you guys are going around and forcing conscripts to the front lines because you have manpower problems,” Vance said to the Ukrainian president. “You should be thanking the president for trying to bring you into this conference.”
Later in the conversation, Trump brought up “World War III,” saying “You’re gambling with World War II, and what you’re doing is very disrespectful to the country, this country that’s backed you far more than a lot of people say they should have.”
