At the "Salute to America" event in Iowa on July 3rd, Trump veered off track from speaking about military recruitment to his relationship with his wife. "I remember saying to our great First Lady," he said, laughing. "I call her 'First Lady,' isn't it terrible?"
He says even when it's just the two of them, including just before bed, he refers to Melania as "First Lady."
"I say, 'Good night, First Lady, my darling,' because it reminds me that I'm president. That's why."
