Donald Trump Wants 'Ownership of Greenland'
Trump has recently insisted that America needs to take ownership of Greenland for security reasons. Last week, Trump sat down with NYT and was asked why he didn't just send American troops to Greenland if it was so important to him to fend off foreign threats—the terms of a Cold War-era agreement allows Americans to send troops to the country. But Trump responded saying that he wouldn't feel comfortable unless he had direct ownership.
When questioned why it's so important to him, he answered, "Because that’s what I feel is psychologically needed for success. I think that ownership gives you a thing that you can’t do, whether you’re talking about a lease or a treaty. Ownership gives you things and elements that you can’t get from just signing a document, that you can have a base."
Kate House correspondent Katie Rogers chimed in, asking if it was psychologically important to him or to the United States, to which he replied, "Psychologically important for me. Now, maybe another president would feel differently, but so far I’ve been right about everything."
