It’s no secret that Emily Ratajkowski is a natural beauty and style icon. On Instagram this week, some fans have been analyzing older photos from the supermodel’s earlier career days, and debating whether or not the 32-year-old My Body author ever underwent the trendy ‘buccal fat removal’ surgery.

Other social media users are arguing that a more sculpted, contouring cheekbones makeup style and natural aging might be leading to Ratajkowski’s slightly different appearance, but many are still divided. This all began in the comment section of a new post under the popular Instagram account @plasticne (where fans often compare photos of celebrities that might have gone under the knife).

Did Emily Ratajkowski Get Buccal Fat Removal Surgery? Some Fans Think So
On June 5th, the account creator posted a side-by-side comparison shot of Ratajkowski from what appears to be her late teen years/ early twenties era, and then a more modern, Cannes Film Festival 2022 pic. Fans then began focusing on her more “sucked-in” cheeks transformation, her seemingly “higher” cheekbones and “plumper” lips.
“Buccal fat removal is the worst trend,” one wrote, referencing the celeb-fave, lower cheek area fat removal process. Another added: “They keep sucking in their faces to make them less feminine.” One other chimed in: “She just aged herself by 15 years at least,” commenting on the surgery that often gets rid of baby fat to lead to a more sunken, bold look (that could also inadvertently age someone).
In January 2023, Ratajkowski sat down for an interview with Refinery29. When asked if the mom of one ever tried "any in-office treatments, injectables or surgeries," she replied: "No. I have a particular face and look and don't like the idea of messing with it. But I like Botox."
She also opened up about getting Botox for the first time at 27 (and did not admit to any other surgeries, despite fan theories above). "For people who don't live in New York or L.A., Botox seems really extreme," the model acknowledged.
"But even now, all my friends in San Diego, my hometown, they get Botox. It's so normal. I mean, I was terrified. But I was also like, everybody looks f—g great. My best friends were getting Botox and I wanted to try it," she continued.
She also discussed her viral High Low with EmRata podcast episode, titled: 'Can You Be Feminist and Get Plastic Surgery?' Ratajkowski shared: "With plastic surgery in general, the way we talk about what's normal and taboo has completely changed."
She added, "It's what I mentioned on the episode. Like, nose job check. Even Doja Cat tweeted about how she's going to get surgery to get a breast lift. I think there's something really nice about how open women are being."
