Katy Perry surprised her fans on Instagram this week with a bold new look – a layered, voluminous and side-parted bob that grazed the middle of her neck.
In an April 29th video shared for her 207 million followers, the American Idol judge, 39, enlisted her hairstylist, Jesus Guerrero, to give her a trim while encouraging her fans, affectionately referred to as “Katycats,” to share their opinions on the new style.

The choppy cut left many doing a double take, and Perry’s fans were eager to weigh in on the bold new ‘do. In an additional post a few hours later, the “Roar” hitmaker wrote: “”You guys had a lot of strong feelings about my haircut.” The Grammy nominee went on: “Let’s see that energy for KP6. Cause this is just a wig.”
Perry has not yet confirmed the name and release date for her upcoming album, but it seems that she is presently utilizing the moniker ‘KP6’ to allude to her highly anticipated record. Her next project will be the follow-up to her 2020 LP, Smile.
Soon after, the mom of one and style icon shared more shots of herself dressed in a striking black blazer dress, bedazzled with glitter. The piece featured a daring low-cut neckline, and it was tailored to accentuate the “California Gurls” singer’s waistline.

Accompanying the dress were a pair of pants boots that matched perfectly, as well as the captivating new hairstyle that she admitted was a wig. Perry’s fake hair received its time to shine when she chose to flaunt it during the April 29th filming of an episode of American Idol.
Even though Perry didn’t really undergo such a chop, many fans on IG weren’t shy in expressing their love for her new look. Many pointed out that Perry (who is no stranger to edgy, layered, short haircuts) really pulled it off.

Always gorgeous even if you were bald,” one fan commented beneath her initial post as another added: “What a babe no matter what hair length always bringing it.” Someone else replied, regarding her latest string of chic outfits, bold makeup looks and intricate hairdos: “Katy has been giving us EVERYTHING with these looks.”
