Rihanna and Jay-Z are some of the biggest names in the music industry and have been for years. However, now, their names are in headlines together after a viral clip of the rapper being rude to the “Diamonds” singer resurfaced in the wake of her dad’s death.
A video of the pop singer accepting her first Grammy award in 2008 has recently resurfaced and gone viral, as Jay-Z interrupted her speech twice, even as she was trying to celebrate the monumental milestone with her father in the audience. The clip’s resurgence doesn’t come long after it was announced that her dad, Ronald, passed away last week, and internet users are saying the R&B legend’s actions were “creepy.” Read more about the viral moment below.
Viral Clip Of Rihanna's Grammy Acceptance Speech Goes Viral Following The Death Of Her Father
On Saturday, May 31st, the beauty mogul's father, Ronald Fenty, passed away at 71 years old. His death hit hard for those who have been following the singer for a while, as she had an on-and-off relationship with him, full of ups and downs. Regardless, he was often there during significant moments of her career, like when she won her first Grammy award in 2008.
That year, Rihanna received her first Grammy award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for her hit song "Umbrella," which she recorded with rap legend Jay-Z. However, when they went on stage to accept the award, what was supposed to be an exciting moment for the Fenty founder turned quite awkward when Jay-Z started interrupting her speech.
Ronald was in the audience during the ceremony, and one of the first things the new Grammy winner said was, "Dad, I know I promised you I'm gonna give you my first Grammy, but we might have to fight for this one."
Then, before she could say anything else, Jay-Z approached the microphone and said, "She said she wanna thank everybody for her first Grammy," which prompted the vocalist to laugh uncomfortably and quickly thank Jay for helping her make the record.
Once again, he interrupted the current mom of two by returning to the microphone and saying, "She'd like to thank Jigga Man for being the greatest man in the world," referencing himself.
When the singer was finally able to finish her speech and thank the other people she wanted to acknowledge, she had to hold out her arm to stop the "Empire State Of Mind" rapper from interrupting her for a final time.

Fans Call Jay-Z A 'Creep' After Watching The Grammys Footage
Once the clip from the 2008 awards ceremony resurfaced online and went viral, it caused quite a stir among Rihanna fans and other internet users, who felt the Brooklyn native was out of line and acting rude during her milestone moment on stage. Fans revisited the footage on YouTube and roasted Jay-Z in the comments section.
"He was so rude and undermined her with his attitude," wrote an internet user.
"Imagine how he treats her and others behind closed doors."
"The narcissism of it all!" added another. "Like, sit down, sir."
"She gave this award to her father, and then Jay-Z came to tell her to thank others," noted another.
The clip also went viral on Facebook recently, where commenters continued calling out the billionaire for his behavior during Rihanna's first Grammy moment.
"He makes my skin crawl," wrote a Facebook user.
"It looks like he wanted her to give him the glory before anyone else," another noted.
"That look on his face said everything."
"Can't stand him!" added an angry commenter, as another said his actions were "creepy."
"How embarrassing," a user wrote.
The Grammy moment going viral is not serving Jay-Z's already damaged reputation after he was accused of sexual assault in a recently dropped lawsuit. While the alleged victim went on record to state that her claims were fabricated, it caused a lot of people to examine the rapper's actions and behavior in the past, and not everyone was too happy with what they saw.
