Fans Criticize Jessica Simpson’s ‘American Idol’ Performance
American Idol invited Simpson to perform at Season 23’s finale on Sunday, and she sang a mix of old and new. With former contestant Josh King, she sang her 2005 hit “These Boots Are Made for Walking” and then performed her new single, “Blame Me.” Sadly, it seems like her nerves got the best of her, and fans were brutally honest.
“I love when singers be like y’all want to hear a key I made up,” one person wrote on a TikTok of her performance.
“Someone please make it stop!” another posted.
“Love her, but she should stick to her billion dollar fashion business,” added another.
Jessica Simpson Admits She Was 'Nervous'
Fortunately, it doesn't seem like Simpson is taking things to heart. Speaking to Extra the following day, she admitted, "Oh, my God, I was dying. I can't even tell you how long it's been since I've been that nervous."
"Like, I had to put hairspray on my feet to stand still, like, not that it actually keeps me put, but, like, my feet were sweating," she continued. "I'm like, 'My feet don't sweat.' I just kept telling myself, 'Do not cry. Do not cry. I know this is a big moment...do not cry. And then I see my dad, like, up in the corner and I'm like, 'Ah, I'm going to cry. I'm going to cry. Do not cry. Just sing your songs. Just sing your songs." She'll get 'em next time!
