It’s no secret that fast food restaurants are known for serving extremely unhealthy meals. Many of us will indulge our fast food cravings by trying to pick a less-unhealthy order off the menu, and usually salads seem like the best bet. But in many cases, a salad at a fast food restaurant may actually be even worse for you than other options.

The Cobb Salad With Avocado Lime Ranch Dressing from Chick-fil-A looks like a delicious yet healthy meal at a first glance. It’s served with the restaurant’s breaded and pressure-cooked sliced chicken served over mixed greens with roasted corn kernels, shredded cheese, crumbled bacon, a sliced hard-boiled egg and grape tomatoes. But this salad is anything but healthy.

It is loaded with 61 grams of fat, 2,220 milligrams of sodium and 34 grams of carbs, including the dressing. For comparison, a Chick-fil-A Deluxe Sandwich contains 22 grams of fat, 1,640 milligrams of sodium and 44 grams of carbs. This begs the question, how is a salad more unhealthy than a fried chicken sandwich?

It’s all about that avocado lime ranch dressing. While it sounds delicious, this dressing is not your friend. Ranch is one of the most unhealthy dressings to start with, and this version is even worse than plain ranch.

If you really want to order this salad, we suggest you add your own dressing to reduce the fat and sodium. An even better solution is to make your own chicken salad at home, since the breaded chicken, roasted corn and crumbled bacon in the Chick-fil-A version makes the salad bad for you to start with.
