Jaden Smith‘s latest collection as Christian Louboutin’s men’s creative director is generating plenty of conversation online—especially over one eye-catching footwear design.

Fresh off its debut at Paris Fashion Week, the Karate Kid actor unveiled Christian Louboutin’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection, which embraces an “avant black tie” aesthetic by blending formalwear with sculptural, wearable art. Among the standout pieces are the now-viral “Claw Feet” shoes, square-toe lace-up shoes with five-toe detailing, and the rugged TCT High Hiker boots.

Jaden Smith Debuts Claw Feet Shoes

In a behind-the-scenes video, the 27-year-old walked fans through the collection and explained the inspiration behind the unusual Claw Feet design.

“These are the Claw Feet,” he said while holding up the shoes. “Christian has a hotel in Portugal. He’s an architect, and inside the hotel we were having dinner when I saw a statue that had these feet on it. I said, ‘You know, we should make a shoe inspired by the statue.'”

The bold red shoes feature furry, textured uppers reminiscent of Chewbacca along with exaggerated claw-like toenails, making them one of the most talked-about pieces in the collection.

The design quickly divided social media.

“Can we get an ACTUAL designer at some point? This is just soooo tiring,” one critic wrote.

Another commented, “This all looks so tacky and shallow. It’s a shame what’s happening to the brand.”

Others added, “Simply horrendous,” “We love Louboutin, but this is just ridiculous,” and, “Yes, I want red Croc-like plastic monster feet shoes.”

One user wrote, “People will buy anything that looks like Halloween because someone puts their name on it.”

Another criticized the creative direction, writing, “It looks like a mix between Pharrell Williams, Virgil Abloh, and Martin Margiela—but without any of their talent.”

Not everyone was against the collection, however. Many fans praised Smith’s willingness to push boundaries.

“Honestly, I’d wear most of that,” one supporter commented.

“Some of these pieces are genuinely beautiful,” another wrote.

A third added, “Not gonna lie, I wanted to hate on this, but a few of these are pretty dope.”

Jaden Smith Chats About His Role At Louboutin

Most recently, Smith spoke with Complex about his latest collection, sharing insights into his creative process—and receiving support from his mother along the way. During an invite-only event at the Christian Louboutin Rodeo Drive boutique in Beverly Hills, where pieces from his collection were on display, Jada praised her son’s dedication to fashion.

“He really does think out of the box when it comes to fashion,” she told Complex. “Fashion is something that he’s really passionate about. He’s been studying it for a while. It’s one thing to have an eye and good taste, but it’s another thing when you really take fashion and the history of fashion as seriously as he does.”

As for Jaden, he admitted he’s still processing the reality of the opportunity. “It still blows my mind,” he said. “I’ve been doing it for a year, and this is the first time that the world really gets to see what’s going on.”
