Gisele Bündchen is known for her extremely enviable supermodel figure. And although the 43-year-old Brazilian beauty is blessed with excellent genes – nobody can deny that! – that’s not to say she doesn’t work exceptionally hard on maintaining her super-toned physique too, both in the gym and in the kitchen.

The mom-of-two has regularly spoken out about the importance of healthy and nutritious eating, and has also shared her wisdom with the world in her previous cookbooks. And now that her newest cookbook Nourish: Simple Recipes to Empower Your Body and Feed Your Soul has finally hit the shelves we are finding ourselves wondering about her diet all over again, including the foods she does and does not eat!

What Does Gisele Bündchen Eat To Maintain Her Supermodel Body?

There are so many new recipes to try out in the former Victoria’s Secret Angel’s new cookbook – and she made one of the tastiest recipes in a video with the Bon Appétit kitchen: gluten-free banana waffles!

We love hearing that Gisele is still able to maintain her rock-hard abs and supermodel physique by eating waffles on a Sunday morning, and are very grateful she shared the recipe with the world. In the video, Gisele explains that to make the waffles, you need almond flour – a great source of protein! – oat flour, and arrowroot grain-free baking powder, as well as coconut oil, coconut milk, maple syrup, vanilla, bananas, flaxseed, salt and eggs. Watch the video above to see how she makes them!

What Else Does Gisele Bündchen Typically Eat In A Day?

As breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day, we're interested to know how the supermodel starts her day during the rest of the week. In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, which was published on March 18th, Gisele explained that she has "lukewarm water with a little lemon and Celtic salt" first thing in the morning to support the immune system and get her metabolism moving. She then typically eats eggs, avocados, omelets, or frittatas to ensure she has a good intake of protein. However, she said she may sometimes go for a smoothie instead, if that's what she fancies.

And what about the rest of the day? Gisele's diet seems to be mostly natural, and consists of fruits and vegetables, as well as almond paste for protein.

What Doesn't Gisele Eat?

In her candid WSJ interview, Gisele also opened up about the foods she does *not* eat. And we aren't surprised to learn that the super-healthy model stays away from refined sugars. "To me, white sugar means poison," she confessed, adding: "There's so many other ways you can sweeten your things that are delicious. Honey, maple syrup, dates."

This confession also coincides with what she wrote in her Nourish book, as she wrote: "No McDonald's or shelf-stable cupcakes or candy for me. My body is my temple, and my temple is sacred. Eating processed food is not being loving to myself."

Gisele Bündchen Says Changing Her Diet Helped Her Depression And Anxiety

It's not just her body that her healthy and nutritious diet has helped, as Gisele recently opened up about how changing her diet had helped her mentally too. While promoting her new cookbook on the Thursday, March 21st episode of The View, Gisele said she overcame "severe" depression and anxiety when she was younger by changing her diet on the recommendation of a naturopath.

"I had no idea that it was correlated with my lifestyle, and food was a big part of it," she confessed, before going on to talk about suffering with severe anxiety and panic attacks – something which she has previously candidly opened up about.

"I didn't know what to do. One of the worst things about panic attacks is the intense fear that you'll have another one. I wanted to feel better, so I found this amazing naturopath and he said to me, 'Gisele, we have to change your diet.' And I was like, 'Diet, what does that have to do with panic attacks?' And he's like, 'No, it has everything to do with it.'"

The Joias Vivara model continued: "I told him about my day. I drink, I smoke, I have coffee – and he said, 'Listen… stop right there.' He says, 'You're not sleeping. You're in different time zones all the time. You're eating, like, terrible all day.'"

She then explained that the naturopath recommended three things: changing her diet, getting at least eight hours of sleep, and exercising every day. "After having a year and a half of what I would say [was] one of the worst times in my life, everything changed," she recalled. "I became a different person. I started practicing meditation. I started practicing yoga. I started practicing breath work. It was a long journey." And she hasn't looked back since!
