Gwyneth Paltrow Credits This Meal Plan For Her Toned Physique And 'Supporting Detox' At 51

Gwyneth Paltrow, who is well-known for her exceptional physique, has divulged her wellness and meal regimen in recent interviews. During her appearance on “The Art of Being Well” podcast with Dr. Will Cole in March 2023, the 51-year-old Goop mogul shared that she adheres to “intermittent fasting,” drinks bone broth for lunch most days, and maintains a paleo diet for an early dinner consisting of plenty of vegetables.

Despite criticism she faced regarding bone broth being an “incomplete meal,” the Oscar winner clarified that this routine was designed in collaboration with an expert and has helped alleviate her body’s natural inflammation post-COVID.

Additionally, in an Instagram Story post for her 8.4 million followers shared soon after, the mom of two highlighted that she eats “much more” than just bone broth and vegetables and has leveraged these sources of sustenance to foster a “healthy detox” and mitigate inflammation.

In the viral podcast interview uploaded to TikTok earlier this year, Paltrow said that she tries to eat dinner "early" every evening and does "a nice intermittent fast." The Avengers: Endgame star added: "I usually eat something at about 12, and in the morning I'll have some things that won't spike my blood sugar, so I have coffee, but I really like soup for lunch." Paltrow continued: "I have bone broth for lunch."

The Shakespeare in Love actress also noted that she prioritizes "one hour of movement" every day and also relaxes for 30 minutes in her infrared sauna. "Then for dinner I try to eat, you know, according to paleo, so lots of vegetables. It's really important for me to support my detox," she concluded at the end of the clip.

After the podcast appearance garnered more attention, Paltrow's words also sparked backlash from some fans and critics. She then took to Instagram to respond. Paltrow clarified in a self-shot video that the footage originated from an episode of "The Art of Being Well" podcast, which is hosted by Dr. Cole, a natural medicine doctorate holder.

Over the course of two years, Paltrow said she has been collaborating with Cole to address ongoing health issues, which now includes "Long COVID." She disclosed that her body experiences "inflammation," as one of her associated symptoms.

"So I’ve been working with Dr. Cole to really focus on foods that aren’t inflammatory ... so lots of vegetables, cooked vegetables, all kinds of protein, healthy carbs to really lower inflammation and it’s been working really well," she explained.

The Shallow Hal alum added: "This is, you know, based on my medical results and extensive testing that I’ve done over time."

The enduring symptoms that persist for extended periods of time following a COVID-19 infection are commonly referred to as "Long COVID," which Paltrow touched upon.

In her Story video on March 17th, Paltrow asserted that her eating habits were not meant to be construed as advice, but rather, "just a transparent look at a conversation between me and my doctor. ... It’s really just what has worked for me, and it’s been very powerful and very positive."

Paltrow went on: "This is not to say that I eat this way all day every day. By the way, I far more than bone broth and vegetables. I eat full meals. And I also have a lot of days of eating whatever I want and eating French fries and whatever." She continued: "But my baseline really has been to try to be healthy and to eat foods that will really calm the system down."

Back in 2020, Paltrow sat down with Harper's Bazaar and provided a thorough breakdown of her daily food and beverage intake. While incorporating anticipated smoothies and granola bars for ample protein and fiber, she shared what some fans found to be a surprising revelation regarding her mid-afternoon snack choices.

Despite her impressive figure, Paltrow indulges in salty treats like cashews and pretzels during this time. "Usually at 3 or 4 I’ll hit the snack cupboard at the Goop office," she said. She went on: "Maybe I’ll have some cashews or pretzels or something like that but I usually need something salty and crunchy in the afternoon and then I’ll have a cup of green tea with that and that’ll hold me through until dinner."

Paltrow told viewers in a video for the publication that she swishes coconut oil in her mouth right after waking up, and while opening the curtains and preparing for her day. "I have raw, organic coconut oil. I put a spoonful in my mouth while I’m opening curtains and everything. I’m sort of swishing it around." She noted that this helps her "remove bacteria," and she follows this step with 1-2 glasses of water.

Before her two kids wake up, Paltrow said that she finds quality time with her husband of almost five yearsBrad Falchuk at the kitchen table while on their laptops and checking emails before the day begins. The businesswoman shares daughter Apple, 19, and son Moses, 17 with ex Chris Martin.

Next, Paltrow noted that she’ll have coffee, then wake her children up, and then head to the gym after dropping them off at school. While working out, the Iron Man alum will drink water with her brand Goop’s Glow Morning Skin superpowder for more vitamin C and to promote skin health.

Before hitting the Goop office, Paltrow often stops for a smoothie at Erewhon. "I get a smoothie that has some good fat and some protein and fiber," she added. "Sometimes I’ll have a cacao and almond butter smoothie with some spinach and some protein powder." If she’s in a rush, Paltrow eats "delicious peanut butter protein bars" as a snack.

Paltrow has lunch around 12 or 12:30 PM every day at the office, and opts for "salads with protein" or a "clean version of a turkey burger." Then, she has an aforementioned salty snack like cashews or pretzels to satisfy her mid-day craving.

For dinner, the Royal Tenenbaums star says that she and her family often pick an "Asian fish with noodles on the side," as her kids love Asian food and her daughter is a vegetarian. For weeknights, Paltrow says: "We always have one vegetarian entrée. One-pot dinners are great."

She also might have oven-baked chicken with potatoes or other vegetables, deeming her meal ideas to be "easy" to make but very "delicious."

While she doesn’t eat them every day, she also did express her love for french fries and pasta, and deemed herself to be an "omnivore," stressing that she avoids eating "baby animals" like veal and lamb, and also never eats "octopus because they’re so smart."

Paltrow also explained that she doesn’t drink every day, but if she does treat herself to an alcoholic beverage, she prefers "Japanese whiskey on the rocks" or a "vodka martini with the cocktail onions," like her father enjoyed as well.

In the interview, she also said that her late father, television and film director and producer Bruce Paltrow "got her into" healthy eating. Paltrow’s mother is actress Blythe Danner. "That’s the day of eats for me," Paltrow concluded the video with a smile.

The Country Strong actress and health enthusiast introduced the inaugural newsletter for her wellness and health brand, Goop, back in September 2008.

The brand has consistently maintained its successful stance and gained immense popularity amongst her loyal fanbase.
