Trends come and go with the seasons, and while you may consider yourself someone who likes to march to the beat of your own drum, you won’t be able to resist the hottest hair color of 2021. As we phase out our dark winter looks and embrace the brightness and warmth that spring has to offer, there’s one shade you’ll be seeing in every salon and on every street corner in the coming months. If you’re in search of a little refresh for your appearance, look no further than the likes of Gigi Hadid and Madelaine Petsch for a splash of inspiration, because bright red locks are the color of the season.

The 125 Best New Beauty Launches Of 2023

The shade of spring 2021 is a stunning strawberry color that can effortlessly provide warmth and liveliness to your tired winter complexion. “People want to go red because they want some brightness in their lives. They're just tired of being blah. I even went red myself because I want something brighter,” Kitty Greller, colorist and educator for Bumble and Bumble, tells us. Fortunately you don’t have to feel limited by your skin tone, either--red is for everyone!

If you have a deeper skin tone, hair stylist and colorist Daisy Henderson tells Allure, “The most popular hair color trend is warm to vibrant copper reds," she shares. "Vibrant copper reds are great for medium to deep skin tones." However, if you have a fairer complexion, you’ll want to opt for a brighter, cooler toned red ala Bella Thorne or Gigi Hadid.

Now that the pandemic is (hopefully) coming to a close and hair salons can soon be back in business, it’s only natural that a style so bold and bright will be at the forefront of fashion as the world comes to life again. Only red hair could match the vibrancy we feel for stepping back into the spotlight and making our second debut into society. When looking for inspiration images, be sure to check out Lucy Hale, Amy Adams, and Zendaya circa the 2019 Emmy’s to get a feel for the shade which best matches your personality.

Whether you’re a pale princess or blessed with beautiful melanin, the red hair trend of spring 2021 knows no bounds. It’s not advised to make any dramatic hair changes at home for fear of burning out your locks, so make an appointment with your stylist (it’s about time!) and hop on board for strands that even Ariel would be envious of.
