Have you had it with your current hairstyle, haircut, or hair color, but can’t figure out what you want to do next to change things up?

There are so many amazing hair trends that we are loving this season — from softly waved bobs and elegant hair bows to honey-blonde and mocha mousse hues. But there are also a few trends we’re happy to see take a nap (at least for the time being, since everything old will be new against before we know it).

If you’re itching for something new and fabulous, here are seven hair trends that are so not it right now.

1. Long Hair That Lacks Layers

As much as we love Demi Moore in everything she does, her very long, one-layered hair doesn’t work for most people. This is because our hair can become thinner with age, and the longer it is, the thinner it can look. Couple that with zero layers to provide lift and you’ve got a hairstyle that tends to sit flat on the scalp and limp everywhere else.

2. Bold, Bright Hair Color

Bold, bright hair color that isn’t natural looking can appear funky and fun, but it can also be high maintenance. The tenor this season is lower maintenance, with an emphasis on soft, warm colors like buttercream blonde and sunlit brunette.

3. Sharply Angled Bobs

There’s something sophisticated and chic about a bob with sharp angles — but if you are looking to be on-trend, hold that thought. Today’s bobs have softer, rounded edges. Think Italian bobs with volume or shaggy bobs with loose layers and lots of texture.

4. Flat-Ironed Hair

Very straight, flat-ironed hair is not a look that is catching the attention of beauty trendsetters right now — and that’s a good thing because it isn’t the most flattering on mature hair (it will make it appear more thin). Allow some natural texture to come through in your hair and rely on good products, like curl cream and volumizers, to help get you there.

5. Ashy, Icy Blonde Shades

Icy, ashy, and cool-toned blondes have had a major moment for a few years. But the look is now turning to warmer hues of blonde. Platinum blonde will always be in style, but the hues dominating right now are multidimensional warm blondes and sun kissed bronde (a darker shade of blonde with plenty of brown lowlights).

6. Messy Buns

There’s nothing that says ‘business” quite like throwing your hair up in a messy bun and getting on with it. A more 2025 take on the trend is an elegant low chignon or bun with a few strategic strands out to frame your face.

7. Ornate Hair Accessories

Put the hair bling away for the time being. — accessories with rhinestones and other sparkling jewels are being replaced with soft fabric accessories such as pretty bow and clips.
