There are many facets to proper haircare. Beyond the products you use and the supplements you take, the way you actually style your hair can also have an impact on its overall health. Ponytail

A ponytail is an easy go-to hairstyle, especially if you cannot stand hair in your face. And although this might be one of the most practical hairstyles, it's not without some drawbacks. Mainly, wearing your hair in a ponytail on a daily basis could lead to damage and breakage.

The solution? Try not to stay loyal to just one type of ponytail. While speaking to Brit + Co,  TRESemmé stylist and spokesperson Jeanie Syfu suggests "mixing up different ways to style your pony" to avoid this damage. "You can do sleek and low with a barrette, loose to the side with a scarf or high at the crown with a piece of leather. Get some fun accessories and make sure to always switch it up if the ponytail is your signature," she explains.

Too-Tight Braids

Braids that are too tight can also lead to hair issues – like damage, breakage, and fall out – down the road. "Braids that are too tight can cause major damage to your hair and scalp. Your braids shouldn’t hurt after they’re installed. If you can’t sleep well because your scalp is too sore, that’s a red flag," stylist Brittany Johnson, senior content manager for Mayvenn, tells Real Simple.

Wet Updos

You should try to avoid putting your hair up while it's still wet because that is actually when your hair is at its weakest. Cheryl Bergamy is a celebrity hairstylist and founder of the haircare line Contents Haircare, tells Byrdie, "Hair is the most delicate when wet. When the hair is in a wet ponytail as the hair is drying in an updo it pulls even more. This could result in thinning hair/hair [loss]."
