Beautiful skin and a healthy body start with the right nutrition. All of us have the ability to fall into diet ruts now and again. We can find ourselves waking up and eating the same breakfast before picking up the same lunch and maybe getting by on the bare minimum for dinner before calling it a day. Expanding our diets and incorporating new foods can help us get all of the essential nutrients we need and makes for a more interesting time eating, as well as support healthy, glowing, and plump skin.
Harvard-education doctor Dr. Terry Shintani says there are five “anti-aging” foods you’re probably not eating enough of. Before you head out to the grocery store, check out this list and stock up to include more great, healthy foods into your routine.
1. Chia Seeds
Chia seeds are so good for you because they are high in omega-3 fatty acids, rich in fiber to help digestion, and contain antioxidants to combat oxidative stress that damages cells. They can absorb up to 12 times their weight in water, making them excellent for hydration, and are a good source or protein. Add them to yogurt, oatmeal, salads, or fruit salads.

2. Broccoli Sprouts
You may eat broccoli on a regular basis, and that’s great, but have you also considered broccoli sprouts? These unassuming sprouts are high in antioxidants and rich in sulforaphane, a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound that can protect against chronic disease. Broccoli sprouts are great for your digestive health and are rich in vitamins C and K, folate, calcium, and potassium, and are also anti-cancer!

3. Quinoa
The next time you want to add rice to your meal, consider quinoa as a highly nutritious alternative. Quinoa is one of few foods that is a complete protein source, which means it provides all nine amino acids. It’s also high in fiber and contains magnesium, iron, B vitamins, manganese, and potassium.

4. Mushroom
Mushrooms contains the antioxidants ergothioneine and glutathione and are a good source of B vitamins, vitamin D, and iron. Certain mushroom varieties, including shiitake, maitake, and reishi, contain compounds that can bolster your immune system.

5. Kiwi
Kiwi is one of the best sources of vitamin C, an antioxidant that encourages collagen production for smoother skin. It’s also high in fiber and contains antioxidants like polyphenols to fight oxidative stress on cells.
