Heidi Klum turned heads at the 2026 Grammys, doing what she does best: sparking conversation with a daring, risqué outfit.

The “naked dress” trend has been dominating red carpets for over a year, with many celebrities opting for sheer, lace, and illusion pieces—but Heidi took it to an entirely new level.

On Sunday, Feb. 1, at Crypto.com Arena, the Project Runway host arrived in a custom Marina Hoermanseder creation, designed to mimic the contours of her body. The glossy, lacquered dress was strapless, cinched at the sides with buckles, and sculpted to showcase her silhouette—essentially giving the illusion of nudity without actually being naked.

Heidi Klum Wears a Jaw-Dropping Lacquer Dress

The mother of four completed the striking look with matching pumps and wore her hair down in a sleek, center-parted style.

The dress was a true work of art, meticulously handcrafted by creating a physical mold of Klum’s body so that every contour—including details like her ribs and belly button—was perfectly captured. The designer used wet leather, stretching and shaping it over the mold with specialized tools and hairdryers to set the form. Multiple paint shades were tested to match Klum’s skin tone precisely before the leather was spray-painted.

A high-gloss lacquer gave the dress a reflective, latex-like finish, while the edges were hand-cut with utility knives for a raw, edgy effect. The garment was made in two separate pieces—front and back—that fastened at the sides with heavy-duty metal buckles. Because the leather was molded into a rigid structure, the 52-year-old jokingly noted that sitting would be impossible, meaning she would be standing for the entire ceremony.

Speaking with Billboard on the red carpet, she said, "I also go for a showstopper kind of an outfit. I'm never someone who is...for the nice thing. I always like something special."

Internet Reacts to Heidi Klum's Revealing Outfit

Despite the creativity and intricate craftsmanship behind her dress, the internet responded with mostly negative reactions.

“I'm sorry. But why? This is just ridiculous,” one fan commented. Another added, “Are those a bunch of Kraft Singles cheese slices?” A third said, “No, absolutely not. When did tacky and uncomfortable become a trend?” Another wrote, “Can’t give up the need to stay relevant. Super ick.”

One user chimed in, “Omg Heidi…you’re better than this,” while another noted, “Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.” One fan questioned, “Is that another Halloween costume, Heidi, or have you lost all your fashion sense?” Another pleaded, “Can we bring some class back to these events?! If I showed up to my job dressed this way, I would be sent home.” And finally, one simply said, “Another revolting dress.”

Her revealing looks come alongside her statement in PEOPLE’s July 2025 cover story, where she said she has nothing to hide as she embraces aging.

“I’ve been photographing nude or in lingerie since 1992, way before Instagram,” the mother of four said. “So for me, it’s nothing new. For the past 15 years, other people have now been doing what I’ve been doing for 30 years. Instead of being in my little bottoms in a magazine, I’m on Instagram. It’s the same thing.”

She continued, “For me to be older, it doesn’t matter. I don’t have this age-shaming or body-shaming thing. I feel like everyone should do what they want to do. I like to run around sexy—even now at 52.”
