Tonya Builds The Base For Her Cottage Cheese Chili Bowl
One of the best meals to enjoy as it gets colder out is chili, as it packs in a lot of flavor, spice, and super-filling ingredients. Chili is also an underrated weight loss food, as it’s full of high-fiber ingredients as well as high-protein ingredients, like beans, tomatoes, peppers, beef or turkey, and more.
If you follow Tonya Spanglo on TikTok, you likely have noticed through her viral content that she is a big fan of cottage cheese, as it’s high in protein and calcium, and can be used in both sweet and savory dishes. She’s made a variety of cottage cheese-based recipes, and this time around, she decided to combine her chili with her cottage cheese to make something hearty and comforting.
For her dish, she mentions that she made homemade chili, although she did not share the exact recipe for it. However, in the comments, she specifies that it includes “ranch style beans.” Typically, a weight-loss-friendly recipe contains simple, wholesome ingredients, including a lean ground meat, a mix of beans, diced or crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and nutritious vegetables like onion, garlic, and bell peppers. It also typically contains the usual spices, like chili powder, cumin, oregano, etc.
Tonya Assembles Her Cottage Cheese Chili Bowl
To take things to the next level protein-wise, and to make her chili a bit more creamy and indulgent, Tonya takes a bowl and adds a single serving of low-fat cottage cheese, which she notes has "12 grams of protein." You can use whichever brand you like, but she prefers one with less liquid. Then, she goes to her stove and adds "one ladle" of her fresh, homemade chili right over the cottage cheese in her bowl before adding some "garnishes."
To top off her bowls and take them to the next level, she adds a sprinkle of shredded Mexican blend cheese and some finely diced white onion before popping her bowl in the microwave for 30 seconds. She also notes that while microwaving cottage cheese sounds a little odd, when the whole thing melts together, it tastes "so delicious."
Cottage cheese is a great alternative to full-fat sour cream in a bowl of chili, and it also adds a lot of extra protein that can guarantee a filling meal. "All fall, all winter long, this is what I'm gonna be eating," adds the weight loss influencer.
