When it comes to losing weight, there are a number of factors that come into play in determining how quickly you shed the pounds. Speeding up your metabolism is one of the best ways to ensure efficient weight loss, and there are certain foods and drinks that you can incorporate into your diet which will naturally increase fat burning in your body. If you’re looking to add an easy metabolism boost into your morning routine, there’s one drink that nutritionists recommend above the rest.

Milk swirling in a cup of coffee

Drinking coffee with skim milk in the morning is ideal for enhancing weight loss naturally, as the morning staple actually works to speed up your metabolism and burn fat in overdrive. Certified health coach Lynell Ross advises drinking a strong cup in the morning to help burn fat, noting that adding milk to your coffee will also give your diet a little extra protein which can keep you full for longer. In turn, this will help to maintain a calorie deficit for weight loss.

Morning coffee boosting metabolism and energy

While caffeine is great to wake you up in the morning, Ross also notes, “Coffee provides other added benefits, from providing antioxidants that prevent cells from oxidation and inflammation, to providing some B vitamins, magnesium and potassium.” As you approach your weight loss goals, minimizing inflammation in the body is also vital for seeing the results of your efforts!

Ingredients to avoid in your coffee

Coffee, as well as being useful for weight loss, can also be valuable in increasing the overall quality and length of your life. Ross explains, “The Annals of Internal Medicine suggests that drinking three cups of coffee per day could lengthen your life, reduce risk of death and help with heart disease. Consider that coffee can help you focus, increase your energy and improve your mood.” If three cups sounds like more than you need, even one cup of coffee will offer you weight loss and metabolism boosting benefits.

Common coffee mistakes to avoid

As you adjust your lifestyle to fit your wellness goals, there will be foods to add and subtract from your diet to optimize weight loss. If you’re already a coffee drinker, the good news is that habit can stay--in fact, it’s actually making you healthier! If you don’t like coffee, there are plenty of other food and drink options, such as green tea, which also have wonderful benefits for your body. Weight loss doesn’t have to look the same for everyone, but if it fits your routine, coffee is a great way to increase fat burn naturally in the morning. Don’t forget to have your last cup at least 8 hours before bedtime!
