Your iPhone is packed with features, but not all of them are working in your favor—especially when it comes to speed and performance. Some settings are quietly running in the background, draining battery, using up data, or just slowing things down. With a few small tweaks, you can make your phone run more efficiently and feel faster. It’s not about doing anything complicated, but about knowing which settings to adjust that can make all the difference.
One tech expert recently shared a list of iPhone settings he swears by to keep his device running smoothly, and after looking through them, four stood out as simple but game-changing.
Whether you’re dealing with lag, quick battery drain, or just want to get more out of your phone, these settings are a great place to start. Here’s what to check and how to make your iPhone work better for you.
1. Camera Control
If you’ve ever wished for more consistency when snapping photos or switching between video modes, turning on Camera Control can really improve your experience. This setting lets your iPhone remember the last mode you used in the Camera app—so if you love taking portrait shots or usually record in video mode, your phone will open right where you left off instead of resetting to photo every time. To enable it, go to Settings > Camera > Preserve Settings and toggle on the options that matter most to you, like Camera Mode, Filter, or Live Photo.

2. Precise Location
While some apps genuinely need to know exactly where you are, many don’t—and keeping Precise Location turned on across the board can drain your battery and feel a little invasive. Instead, you can have more control over which apps have access to your exact whereabouts and which only get a general idea. This not only helps your phone run more efficiently but also gives you more control over your privacy. To adjust this, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, tap on an app, and decide whether to toggle Precise Location on or off.

3. Live Voicemail
Live Voicemail is one of those features that makes you wonder how you ever lived without it. When someone leaves you a voicemail, this setting allows you to have a live transcription of the message as it’s being recorded, giving you the chance to decide if you want to pick up mid-message. It’s perfect for screening calls without the guesswork and saves time when you just need to glance at what’s being said. To turn it on, head to Settings > Phone > Live Voicemail and toggle it on.

4. Remove Photo Metadata
When we share photos, we don’t always realize that these images carry metadata, including where and when the photo was taken. If you want a little more privacy, especially when posting or sending pictures, removing this data is a smart move. Your iPhone lets you strip out location and other details right before sharing. Tap the Share button on a photo, then select Options at the top of the share screen, and toggle off Location and any other data you’d like to keep private.
