Jennifer Aniston Makes Political Statement
Back in September, comedian and talk show host Jimmy Kimmel had his show taken off air for several days after he criticized the right-wing response to the shooting of Charlie Kirk. Donald Trump's appointee to the FCC, Brendan Carr, then placed a lot of pressure on ABC to cancel Jimmy Kimmel Live! outright.
But after backlash from fans calling the move "censorship" and reacting by dropping their subscriptions to Disney+ and Hulu, the streaming services owned by ABC's parent company, Jimmy's show was restored.
Aniston happens to be close friends with Kimmel and his wife, Molly McNearney, and in her interview with Elle, she addressed the situation. "Unthinkable things are happening," she said. "It's very dangerous and very unfortunate. But at the end of the day, we're the viewers. We subscribe to these networks and streaming services, so it really comes down to the people and their voices."
"All those subscription cancellations spoke volumes," she added.
Social Media Reactions
Most social media reactions were supportive of the "Friends" actress, cheering her on for using her voice and her platform to bring attention to a serious issue. But there were some critics who didn't want to hear it. "So disappointed," one person wrote on X, formerly Twitter. "She takes herself too seriously."
