Jennifer Lopez stepped into her hosting shoes for this year’s American Music Awards and a series of attention-grabbing costumes for the special event. However, they didn’t go over well with people online.

The “Jenny From The Block” singer was the leading figure at this year’s American Music Awards, which many considered disappointing because of a lack of major acts and poor planning. However, something that was especially controversial in the show was J-Lo’s outfit changes, as she changed into eight different looks that many internet users found to be “terrible.” Read more about her anticlimactic costume changes below.

Jennifer Lopez Changes Into Eight Different Looks For This Year's American Music Awards

The 2025 annual AMAs were held on Monday, May 26th, at a theater in Las Vegas. The awards show, which typically celebrates today's hit musicians and achievements in music, returned after a two-year-long hiatus due to reported broadcasting rights issues. Since its start in 1974, the ceremony was typically packed with A-List celebrities, from Michael Jackson to Taylor Swift. However, this year's comeback was not thrilling for fans, despite Jennifer's best efforts to put on a good show.

The Bronx native presented awards and segments and performed with a slightly confusing opening number. Instead of singing the entire time, she danced to some of today's biggest hits by nominated artists. Besides her puzzling dance sequence and other odd elements of the show, like hardly any of the top nominees being in attendance, some internet users were not pleased with the host's wardrobe changes and roasted them online.

The award-winning singer and actress wore eight different dresses and outfits throughout the night, including a skintight sparkling body suit with various sizes and shapes of dark fabric spread across it, a silver halter gown with a long, revealing leg slit and bright blue cape, and a long black coat dress with sheer sleeves. Her looks didn't seem to have a theme, but most of them were sparkling and shimmering as she posed.

One outfit received some positive reviews, including her closing dress, which was made of a flowing, light brown fabric and contained sultry cutouts down her torso. Still, the overall consensus for her eight costume changes is not great, according to numerous people online.

Reddit Users React To Jennifer's Wardrobe Changes At The AMAs

While some people may see the numerous outfit changes presented by the mom-of-two as impressive, others were not so impressed and found many of the looks to be underwhelming or downright unattractive. In a pop culture Reddit thread, internet users trashed the Selena actress's looks, stating that they were surprised by how bad they were.

"How is it possible these all look awful?!" asked a Reddit user under photos of J-Lo's numerous costume changes.

"[Eight] outfits and not a single one serving," added another.

"Every single one of them was terrible," wrote a user, while another noted, "She's always wearing a look."

"We don't always like them, but she is consistent."

Other Reddit users did think some looks weren't as bad as the others, which were the simplest of dresses in the rotation, like a blue strapless sequined gown with exaggerated hips and a gold halter dress with two long leg slits. Despite that, they felt most of the dresses were "too much" and that she probably would've made a bigger impact with fewer dresses that were extra flattering.

While Jennifer still has yet to acknowledge the backlash against her looks, we can only assume that those in charge of the once-popular music awards show are looking into how they can make it better next year, as it was considered a 'flop' by many viewers this time around.
