Jessica Chastain just debuted a shocking new look for her upcoming role as Tammy Faye Bakker in the film ‘The Eyes Of Tammy Faye,’ and it’s clear that the 44-year-old is fully committed to the part. Playing the recognizable former televangelist of the 1970’s, Chastain donned a full face of makeup, looking nothing like herself in recent stills from the film.

Fox Searchlight Pictures released images of Chastain and her co-star Andrew Garfield in character as Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker, showing the pair in the famous ‘Nightline’ interview of 1987. Fully glammed up just as Bakker was, Chastain is hardly recognizable sitting next to Garfield, wearing a pink top and gold choker necklace. The original story of Tammy Faye Bakker was chronicled in a 2012 documentary of the same name, which Chastain revealed inspired her through Bakker’s big heart.

“I just was so blown away by her and her story,” Chastain said. “The thing I loved the most about Tammy is her capacity to love. She knew what it felt like to not feel important, and she didn’t want anyone to experience that.” Growing to fame as the hosts of the religious program ‘The 700 Club,’ the upcoming film will chronicle the rise and fall of the couple, with Jim Bakker eventually going to prison following a scandal regarding his finances following allegations of sexual assault.
The studio has released a variety of images of Chastain in character to tease the film, and the actress can be seen wearing the vibrant and heavy handed makeup that Bakker was famous for. Set to be released in theaters in September, both Garfield and Chastain seem to be deeply embedded in their roles as the tumultuous couple. We can’t wait to see it on the big screen!
