Joaquin Phoenix Whispers ‘It’s Horrible’ To Lady Gaga
The film, which was a new take on the classic Joker film franchise, is a musical, which explains why the talented Lady Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, is one of the leads. However, it seems that Joaquin Phoenix wasn’t a fan of the fresh take on the beloved classic. In the viral video, the 49-year-old can be seen leaning over to his co-star as everyone around them claps, and though it’s not audible in the video, lip readers think the actor wasn’t afraid to say what he truly felt.
“It’s horrible,” it looks like he says to Germanotta, to which she replies, “No it’s not, don’t say that,” while smiling and clapping herself. But Phoenix holds strong, saying next, “I do think it was though.”
“Do you think so?” Lady Gaga then asks, a more serious look on her face. And he responds, “Certainly.” The “Bad Romance” singer then says that she rather liked it, and after a quick, “Yikes,” Joaquin Phoenix backs away from Lady Gaga, gesturing for the crowd to cheer for her, rather than for him.
Fans Think The Worst
In the comment section of the viral clip, fans were pretty divided over whether to agree with Phoenix or side with Lady Gaga. "That move was the worst joke movie ever!" one person wrote. "Wtf were they thinking!? Nothing but a bad musical and the ending of it sucked."
"Joker 2 was great," another commenter disagreed. "Great performances, great story."
"Be a professional!" a third person argued. "Regardless of how the movie turned out!"
"He has never seemed comfortable with the spotlight and crowds," one person pointed out.
"I think he just didn't like the musical format," another user said.
"I mean even if he felt that way he didn't have to say that to Gaga in front of everyone while an entire theater literally cheers for them," a final fan said.
