Kacey Musgraves, 33, is no stranger to stunning stage ensembles, and at a New York City concert this month, the country-pop superstar donned a gorgeous cobalt minidress and epic boots with ample ruching. Her performance look had an equally powerful story behind it as she paid homage to the late designer Virgil Abloh who crafted the outfit just for her. How sweet and special!
The “breadwinner” hitmaker drew all eyes to her sapphire-blue strapless dress and matching thigh-high boots at her Madison Square Garden stop on her “Star-Crossed: Unveiled” tour. Musgraves lit up the stadium with impassioned renditions of tracks from her fourth record, star-crossed, that she released last September.

With this fitted, timeless outfit, Musgraves’ stylist noted that her aim was to honor Abloh in his custom-made velvet mini dress and coinciding boots. The special, curve-hugging item was made specifically for Musgraves (as you can tell by its very flattering fit) and modeled after a similar runway look that Bella Hadid first wore.
On February 9th, the “justified” singer’s stylist Erica Cloud snapped pics of the musician in the dress and shared them to her Instagram account. Her caption read: “Love (to) Virgil, Kacey @spaceykacey wearing a custom @off____white by @virgilabloh dress he made for her (since we loved the runway one so much) Sadly, she wasn’t able to wear it last year before he left us, but wore it in his honor for her sold out show in NYC at @thegarden & in tribute to someone that was true blue and will never be forgotten.”

In November, the Off-White designer passed away at the age of 41 after a two-year battle with cardiac angiosarcoma, a rare cancer. Musgraves’ concert look— from its rich blue hue to its cut that showed off her toned legs and slim waistline— paid tribute to Abloh in the best way, simultaneously highlighting her beauty and his designing talents.
To complete her performance attire, Musgraves wore her long, raven locks in loose waves and parted her outgrown curtain bangs down the middle. She rocked blue eyeshadow to match her dress and boots as well as a subtle pink lip and tasteful contour.
After seeing her shine in this dress and knowing the meaning behind her outfit choice, as she sings on her 2018 hit record, Golden Hour, this look makes us feel “happy and sad at the same time.”
