Katy Perry made quite the impression at the 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards this week with her daring, skin-revealing attire that flaunted her lingerie. Opinions among fans on social media were divided upon witnessing the American Idol judge‘s outfit.
While some praised the “Dark Horse” singer’s “bold” and “edgy look” featuring a ruby red lace-up midi skirt, a matching peplum cropped corset top, and black platform heels, others on Instagram criticized the ensemble for being “wrinkled” and “sloppy.”

Perry, 39, stopped by the ceremony at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, where she paid tribute to women in the music industry who have made notable contributions to the field.
The event was hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross. The night's special honorees included artists like Kylie Minogue, Karol G and Victoria Monét.
To complete her get-up, Perry added a chic pearl necklace and matching dangly earrings. For her glam, the "Hot N Cold" hitmaker styled her shiny, long signature raven tresses in a slicked-back ponytail with her blunt baby bangs worn down.
As for her makeup look, the mom of one sported bold black liner, smokey gray eyeshadow, sky-high lashes, rosy blush and a classic red lip.

On March 7th, Perry treated her massive following of 207 million on Instagram to a better glimpse of her ensemble. In the video, she showcased her new prosthetic tattoo and black thong as someone adjusted the laces on her skirt.
Later on, she flaunted the butterfly design on the red carpet. Tagging her makeup artist, Hugo Villasenor, Perry gave fans a closer look at the intricate creation on her back. She captioned her upload: "you’re my butterfly, sugar, baby."
On Instagram, ExtraTV shared new photos of Perry in this outfit on the red carpet, and fans headed to the March 7th post comment section to share their thoughts.
"This looks horrible. Sorry," one wrote as another added: "She's beautiful but this outfit is ugly and tacky." Others on X (formerly Twitter), couldn't disagree more, with one tweeting beneath an upload from pop culture-themed account Pop Base: "absolutely stunning." Someone else replied: "The butterfly, oh my god, this year it's hers."
Other fans on both social media sites begged Perry for "new music." One tweeted: "KP6 IS COMING!!!" regarding her upcoming sixth studio album as another noted: "We need her music." During her Jimmy Kimmel Live! appearance last month, Perry recently revealed that she is indeed working on new projects and has something special for fans on its way. "It’s going to be a very, very exciting year … for all popstar girlies!" Perry told host Jimmy Kimmel, 56, when asked about why she is leaving American Idol after serving as a judge for seven seasons.
"Let’s just say I’m creating space for my new wingspan," she added. Perry also revealed that her Idol co-stars and fellow judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie had been cognizant of her intentions to depart from Idol upon witnessing her presence "in the studio."
Perry continued: "They figure I’ve been in the studio for a while so they figured something is coming. I love the show so much but I wanna go and see the world and maybe bring new music."
