It’s no secret that Kanye West played a notable role in Kim Kardashian‘s style evolution, as the rapper and designer inspired many of her fashion choices during their relationship. As fans probably recall, throughout their marriage, the Yeezy mogul helped style the Skims founder for many memorable red carpet looks and other iconic outfits. Now, the reality star, 41, opened up about her anxiety in trying to choose outfits without her ex’s input on last week’s episode of Hulu’s The Kardashians.

In one scene, viewers can see Kim speak with her sister, Kourtney about her divorce, as the KKW Beauty founder says she “got to a point where I would ask him for advice for everything — down to what I wear.” Kim added, “Even now I’m having panic attacks like, what do I wear? In New York — I will say — he styled me all for SNL,” she said, crediting Ye for curating her ensembles for the October 2021 episode, in which she gave a memorable monologue donning a hot pink catsuit (designed by his fave brand, Balenciaga).

She continued, telling her older sis, “Then for the Wall Street Journal magazine, I won the innovator award for Skims. And I was like, ‘How do I wear something that hasn’t been pre-vetted first?” Kourtney then asked, “Does it make you nervous? Are you like, ‘Is this is a bad outfit?'” Kim then brought up one outfit in particular that still unsettles her when speaking about it.

In November 2021 while accepting the WSJ award, she explained, the mom of 4 rocked a brown leather dress from the Skims x Fendi collection and added matching gloves, snakeskin boots and diamond jewelry to accessorize. This, she noted, was a look that Ye disapproved of, and he called her later on to criticize it. “He told me my career’s over. And then he showed me a picture of Marge Simpson wearing something similar,” Kim said to Kourtney.

Later on in the episode, Kim is seen scouring her closet for something to wear to the weddings of Paris Hilton and Simon Huck, her longtime friends. In a confessional regarding her style, she said, “I definitely see what I like, but I’ve never really been the visionary […] Kanye would come in and be like, ‘You should do your hair like this. You should do your makeup like this.’ That’s his love language, it’s clothes,” she added. “I always just trusted in him.”

As she filed for divorce from the Donda musician, 44, over 1 year ago, Kim stressed that she is still continuing to learn what her style means to her, even though doing so is difficult without his advice. “I’m trying to figure out, who am I in the fashion world, or who am I by myself?,” she said. “I was always ‘The Kardashians’ with my sisters, and then I was ‘Kimye.’ Like, who is Kim K? That is the jump. How do I get there without Kanye?” She continued, acknowledging her growing confidence, “I’m finally stepping out, like, I can do this.”
