Kim Kardashian may have enlisted Zendaya’s longtime stylist Law Roach, but the fashion collaboration hasn’t stopped some fans from criticizing her latest look.
For the opening night of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles on September 19, the mom of four stepped out in a shimmering gown from Yves Saint Laurent’s Fall 2004 collection, originally designed by Tom Ford.
The vintage dress featured a Chinese-inspired sleeveless silhouette covered in sequins, along with oversized floral embroidery, a high neckline and a keyhole cutout at the chest. A dramatic thigh-high slit added another statement detail, while contrasting teal piping outlined parts of the design and the underside of the ensemble revealed aqua-colored lining.

The Skims mogul accessorized with silver earrings and wore her hair slicked back, leaving a single piece of fringe along one side of her face. She completed the look with her signature full-glam makeup.
However, some fans were less than impressed with the vintage ensemble, with several arguing that the dress did not flatter Kardashian. Others also focused on the difference between the heavily edited images she shared online and paparazzi photos from the event.
“She looks like the hostess at a fancy Chinese restaurant,” one person wrote on Reddit.
“I think she’s the hostess that sat my group at the PF Chang’s last weekend,” another joked.
“The contrast of this face to the unfiltered one riding a bike and actually having nasolabial folds is so crazy,” a third commenter said.
“She always looks sooooo stiff and uncomfortable. I feel like a literal rib removal would be less painful than the corsets she constantly forces herself to wear,” another user wrote.

This isn’t the first time Kardashian has worn a Chinese-inspired silhouette and faced criticism, with fans also previously calling her out for allegedly altering an archival fashion piece to fit her body.
Back in May, Kim attended a performance of The Fear of 13 wearing another striking archival design, this time from Christian Dior’s Spring 1997 collection.
The yellow gown featured a high-neck collar and a structured silhouette that closely echoed the design details of her recent YSL look. Kardashian also wore a similar slicked-back hairstyle, creating an especially comparable aesthetic between the two appearances.
The archival fashion moment drew criticism online, with some fans questioning how the vintage piece was styled and handled. “What is her obsession with ruining iconic pieces?” one person asked.
