King Charles And Prince William Still Don't Trust Prince Harry And Meghan Markle
British royal expert Hilary Fordwich told Fox News Digital that this lingering distrust is the main reason reconciliation seems unlikely, despite peace talks currently happening.
"Persistent lack of trust is the main reason why senior royals remain reluctant to engage in reconciliation efforts," Fordwich explained.
"Their concerns are well-founded, that any private family discussions could become public or be used for commercial projects." She went on to say that Meghan "has no sense of duty toward the British public nor the institution."
Meghan Markle's Estrangement From Her Own Family Isn't Helping Her Reputation
While Prince Harry's memoir Spare revealed plenty of intimate family details, royal insiders suggest that the As Ever founder is seen as the bigger issue within the monarchy. Reports claim it's not just her willingness to criticize the royal family, but also the negative things she has said about her own family.
"The flea in the ointment really is very much Meghan," royal author Ingrid Seward told Fox News Digital. "She's disliked intensely by a large number of the monarchists of this country. They see her as being very damaging to the royal family."
Seward added that the backlash against Meghan isn't confined to the U.K. "And also, I think a lot of people in America feel the same. They don't like that Meghan [reportedly] dissed her husband's family and dissed her own family," she continued.
The estrangement from Meghan's father, Thomas Markle, is also something the royal family and the public have issues with. Seward noted how surprising it is that Thomas has never met his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, nor has he ever met Prince Harry!
"It's just extraordinary to think that her children have not met their grandfather," Seward said, suggesting that this only adds to negative perceptions of Meghan. "I think people in the States find that extremely odd, and [we] find it very odd here. And I think that's a real black mark against Meghan's character."
Seward went on: "I think she hasn't been able to embrace… her own family, however much she feels about them. I mean, Harry's never even met her father, which is extraordinary. There are a lot of difficult emotions [to] get over there."
Prince William Has Taken A 'Firm Stance' In Keeping His Distance From Prince Harry
Even if the mom-of-two miraculously manages to reconcile with her own family, and King Charles does end up forgiving Prince Harry, Seward seems to believe that the royal feud will still remain due to Prince William and Prince Harry's issues with each other.
According to Seward, Prince William has "taken a firm stance" in keeping his distance, particularly in light of the couple's many tell-alls. Prince Harry, however, has pushed back, insisting that his brother was often unkind to Meghan.
"Harry thinks that William insulted Meghan," Seward explained, adding: "I think when you have that kind of animosity, it's really hard to [get around it]. I just don't see any kind of reparation. I just don't see it at this moment."
