New reports have come out that the king is on a mission to upgrade his wife’s royal jewelry collection by tracking down her great-great-grandmother’s expensive pieces, including a $44,000 tiara. King Charles Is Reportedly Seeking Out Queen Camilla's Family Jewelry
As if the royal family weren't already in possession of some very impressive bling, the monarch is reportedly stepping things up as he's acquiring some expensive, old jewelry for his wife.
New reports have emerged that King Charles has been in the process of uncovering and acquiring pieces that once belonged to Alice Kreppel, his great-great-grandmother, who happened to be the mistress of Charles's great-great-grandfather, King Edward VII. The family history there is quite fascinating, considering Queen Camilla has been known as King Charles III's mistress since their affair was uncovered while he was married to the late Princess Diana.
According to UK jeweler Steven Stone, not only was the current king fascinated with the coincidence, but he also began a mission to gather Kreppel's jewels and jewelry pieces for his wife.
King Charles Purchased A $44,000 Tiara For Queen Camilla
As he's been gathering and purchasing pieces from Kreppel's jewelry collection for his wife, the 77-year-old king hit one big accomplishment, which was the purchase of a special tiara.
Zack Stone, leading diamond expert at Steven Stone, told Brides that the king purchased the Keppel Tiara, a $44,000 item made from gold, platinum, and diamonds, completed with synthetic rubies. According to history, the tiara was purchased by King Edward VII in Paris to give to Alice around the early 1900s.
The jewelry expert noted that the "combination of rubies and diamonds means enduring love, making it a sentimental gift from King Edward II to his most celebrated mistress."
Though there are few photos of Camilla wearing her gifted tiara, the expert noted that there was one appearance where she wore the tiara in its other form, a necklace, as it's capable of serving a dual purpose. We'll be curious to see if the queen will be stepping out in any of the purchased pieces this year, but for now, it's a great example of how much her husband is willing to do for her.
