One of the most shocking influential figure health updates of the year was certainly King Charles III‘s cancer diagnosis, which has had many royal family enthusiasts worried about him over the last year.

Since officially announcing that he had been diagnosed with cancer at the start of last year, the monarch has seemingly been trying to keep up his health and maintain some sense of normalcy, staying strong in order to carry out his royal duties. However, in his new book on the monarchy, a royal author recently revealed that the king reportedly was “reduced to tears” upon seeing and hearing the public’s reaction to his illness. Read more about the situation below.

King Charles III Was Reportedly 'Reduced To Tears' Following His Cancer Announcement

The royal family has clearly been through a lot over the last few years, including some health issues, which have rattled the lives of the House of Windsor. Not only did the king himself reveal he had been diagnosed with cancer last February, but about a month later, after weeks of speculation and concern, his daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton, revealed she was being treated for a form of cancer as well.

The 76-year-old, who took the throne of king following Queen Elizabeth II's passing in 2022, has been rather vague about his cancer, not revealing exactly what kind it is, and having his team release general and straightforward updates on his health. Since then, there have been a few scary moments, like announcements from Buckingham Palace that, in addition to his routine cancer treatment, he's had a few brief hospitalizations.

Recently, a renowned royal expert and author, Robert Jobson, came out with a new book about the current members of the royal family and how they've been handling all the major life updates that have come their way. In his book, The Windsor Legacy, he revealed that the king was extremely moved by the public's reactions after making the announcement that he had cancer last year.

"[He's] been reduced to tears—not by his plight, but by the thousands of warm letters he has received," wrote Jobson, as reported by The Daily Mail. "Some were cards, clearly made by children and covered in glitter or accompanying a get-well gift of Smarties."

King Charles Reportedly Has Been 'Overwhelmed' By The Support He's Received

It's no secret that the dad of two has been one of the more controversial members of the royal family, which largely stems from his relationships with his late wife, Princess Diana, and his current wife, Queen Camilla, formerly Camilla Parker Bowles.

However, despite all the backlash he's faced for his scandalous affair with Camilla prior to his and Diana's divorce and her tragic passing in 1997, the royal author noted how the public continued to show their love and support for him over the last year, sending many gifts and messages encouraging him to be well and stay strong.

"Charles was simply overwhelmed to learn that so many cared and wished him well," wrote the author, despite the backlash from "those who adored his late wife Diana."

In addition to taking in all of the public's well wishes and support, the king is also reportedly taking better care of himself and doing what he can to stay as healthy as possible, eating well and getting rest when he can.

"[He's] changed some of the habits that once seemed set in stone," wrote the author, who added that he was "slowing down" and listening to his medical team.
