Lady Gaga has been making headlines with her latest single “Abracadabra,” her breathtaking Victorian-inspired gothic gown by Vivienne Westwood at the Grammys, and her toned physique after shedding pounds for her role as Harley Quinn in the recent Joker sequel, Folie à Deux.
The “Bad Romance” singer, 38, put in considerable effort off-camera to improve her fitness. Joaquin Phoenix, her Joker 2 co-star, also observed that the House of Gucci alum shed a significant amount of weight to portray Haley Quinn, describing the accomplishment as “impressive.”
Inside Lady Gaga's Love of Pilates and Spinning Following Joaquin Phoenix's Compliment on Her Weight Loss
In September 2024, Variety reported that Phoenix, 50, said to Gaga (born Stefani Germanotta) at the Venice Film Festival: "I remember when I first met you in rehearsals and then you went away and when you came back, you lost a lot of weight." With that said, many fans were curious about how the "Applause" hitmaker managed to keep her figure so trim, and what exercises and routines she preferred for staying fit.
Gaga's personal trainer, Harley Pasternak, shared with Us Weekly that the pop star achieved a remarkable change in her physique by engaging in 35-minute strength training workouts, five times per week. He also told the outlet in 2011: "She used to have very little muscle tone, but we firmed her up."

Pasternak mentioned that the Haus Labs mogul incorporates TRX bands into her body weight resistance workouts. He also provided video clips of her engaging in warm-up routines before her legendary Super Bowl show. The "Love Game" artist is a huge fan of spinning and has even taken her indoor bikes along on tours to maintain her fitness while traveling.
She has been dedicated to spinning for over ten years, and Vogue recently highlighted in a profile that she had just finished a class before the interview. In addition, Gaga has shared pictures on Instagram of herself swimming and working out in the water, all while maintaining her fit physique.

Prior to her 2017 Super Bowl performance, she disclosed that she exercises while singing. This, Gaga told ABC News, is because her concerts are "full-on cardio." She added: "Well, I work out a lot and I do VersaClimbing while I sing." (The VersaClimber is a popular workout device that integrates both lower and upper body exercises through a natural vertical climbing movement).
Gaga also said to The New York Times that she practiced yoga with Tricia Donegan at her Bikram studio on Allen Street. Once Gaga rose to stardom, Donegan began teaching her privately. "She uses her talent to make this world better, and that’s because she practices yoga," Donegan said. She added: "We are using her celebrityism so that people will listen. She is blessed that she has talent, but what’s special about her is that she’s going to change the world."

The instructor continued: "When I teach yoga, I teach a practice of self-compassion. When you ask, how do I teach my clients, the answer is, the way they do anything is how they do everything. So if they’re successful in one part of their life, they will be successful in Bikram."
Gaga also takes her workout recovery seriously. She revealed in an Instagram post how she relaxes after a performance. As the performer told fans, regarding her routine: "Post show routine: ice bath for 5-10 min, hot bath for 20, then compression suit packed with ice packs for 20."
