One of the best ways you can keep your iPhone battery healthy and long lasting is by committing to better charging habits. This means using Apple-certified charging cables, trying to keep your phone within the sweet charging zone of 30 to 80 percent, and keeping your phone out of extreme temperatures to the best of your ability (heat and cold can cause your battery to deteriorate faster).

It’s also a good idea to stop making some of the most common charging mistakes that so many of us are guilty of making each day. Avoid these mistakes for a longer-lasting battery.

1. Charging Your Phone to 100 Percent

Your iPhone is equipped with a newer, more modern battery that won’t suffer from trickle charges like older phones did. But that doesn’t mean that you should charge it to 100 percent all of the time. Leaving your phone on the charger simply isn’t necessary, and doesn’t add to its charging capabilities, plus it could add additional heat to your device, and this is never a positive things.

2. Using Cheap Chargers

Avoid using those very cheap chargers you find in gas stations and on Amazon or discount sites. These chargers aren’t always equipped to effectively charge your phone and model, and this can lead to a too-fast charge or too-slow charge that negatively impacts your battery.

3. Letting Your Phone Drop to 0 Percent

Extreme anything isn’t the best thing for your phone—that means extreme temperatures and battery charges. When you let your phone drop to 0 percent and it shuts down, it takes more time and energy to charge and get it back into working order. Avoid this by charging your phone when it reaches 20 percent (or above) and not letting it dip down much below this.
