Doctor Shares The 'Dangerous' Effects Of Low Collagen Levels In Your Body: 'Never Ignore This'

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body, playing a critical role in maintaining the structure, strength, and elasticity of skin, joints, bones, and connective tissue. It’s often called the “glue” that holds everything together. But as we age—or due to factors like poor diet, smoking, UV exposure, or certain health conditions—our natural collagen production begins to decline.

A collagen deficiency doesn’t just show up as wrinkles or sagging skin. It can lead to more serious health concerns.

Dr. Eric Berg recently revealed the one result of low collagen you should “never ignore.” He stated that a weakened vascular system is the sign to watch out for.

Weakened Vascular System

“The integrity of your blood vessels becomes weakened. This is what causes the arteries to rupture,” he says.

A weakened vascular system means that the walls of your blood vessels—especially capillaries, veins, and arteries—are not as strong or elastic as they should be. Collagen is a key structural protein that helps keep these vessels firm, flexible, and resilient. When collagen levels are low, blood vessels can become fragile and more prone to damage. This can result in symptoms like frequent bruising, visible spider veins, nosebleeds, or even issues like varicose veins.

“I personally put a scoop of collagen in my coffee every morning. It will completely dissolve, and you won’t even taste it,” while also giving it a creamy texture, which is never a bad thing.

He also recommends the skin on the chicken, fish, pork rinds, gelatin, bone broth, or even a supplement because these have more collagen than tender meat.

The bottom line

Over time, inadequate collagen levels can contribute to conditions like osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and increased injury risk.

In short, collagen isn’t just about looking good—it’s essential to feeling strong, mobile, and resilient from the inside out.
