Summer may not officially be over until September 23rd, but for many of us, Labor Day is the marker that the season of sunshine has come to a close. And though that in and of itself is a bummer, there’s a bright spot: mega-sales at stores across the mall (and the internet), with one dependable participant being longtime retail giant Macy’s.

Every year, Macy’s has offered amazing deals at their annual Macy’s Labor Day Sale, with discounts going live prior to the holiday and additional bargains available on the day itself. Of course, it really only lasts for Labor Day weekend—so be sure to snag your savings while you can!

When Will The Macy's Labor Day Sale Start In 2023?

This year, the sale is expected to run from Wednesday, August 30th, through Monday, September 4th, 2023. The sale will be available in-store during regular store hours, which are generally 10 AM - 8 PM at Macy's, and they will be open on Labor Day.

In 2022, the retailer commenced their Labor Day sale on August 31st with the event lasting through September 5th, or while supplies lasted for certain items.

What Benefits Come With Signing Up For Macy's Star Rewards?

There are a few ways to score additional benefits when it comes to shopping at Macy's. The biggest is to sign up for Macy's Star Rewards, the retailer's free-to-join rewards program that's an especially lucrative perk for frequent shoppers. With Macy's Star Rewards, signup is free, and you can pay any way you like, from credit to cash. By just doing the basic signup you'll be in the "Bronze" tier of savings, which scores you 1 point for every $1 spent at the store—1,000 points = $10 Star Money. Once you earn a Star Money reward, you can use it on just about anything at Macy's excluding give cards, services, and fees within 30 days of receipt.

You'll also gain access to Star Money Bonus Days (sale days exclusive only to members), birthday surprises, member exclusives with bonus points for shopping brands you love, and free shipping on orders $25 or more.

Should I Sign Up For A Macy's Credit Card?

There are a lot of perks to signing up for a Macy's Star Rewards Credit Card. Right when you sign up, you get 25% off the day of signup approval and the next day, up to a total of $100 over the 2 days. However, when it comes to the Labor Day Sale, keep in mind that the discount can't be combined with other discount offers except where indicated, and doesn't apply to services, select licensed departments, Apple products, smart watches/jewelry and select tech accessories, gift cards, restaurants, gourmet food, and wine.

New credit cards are opened at Silver Status ($1 - $499 annual spend), so you'll start one tier above the free-to-join Bronze tier of Star Rewards. At Silver tier, you'll snag everything available at Bronze tier, as well as 2 points per every $1 spent (versus 1:$1 at Bronze) and Star Pass special savings just for cardholders.

Of course, the perks get even better at the higher tiers. Your status will be upgraded to Gold once you hit the $500 - $1,199 annual spend threshold, scoring you 3 points per $1 spent and no minimum for free shipping. Once you pass into the $1,200+ threshold, you'll be at Platinum status, which will earn you a whopping 5 points for every $1 spent and no-minimum free shipping.

How Is The Macy's American Express Card Different Than The Regular Macy's Star Rewards Credit Card?

There are 2 options when signing up for a Macy's credit card, however—and the most lucrative is the Macy's American Express-branded card. Along with all the initial Silver, Gold, and Platinum tier perks, the Macy's AmEx will score you additional benefits exclusive to that card. For all Silver, Gold, and Platinum-tier Macy's AmEx cardholders, there's an additional 3 points per $1 spent at restaurants, including delivery; 2 points per $1 spent at gas stations and supermarkets; 1 point per $1 spent everywhere else; exclusive travel and entertainment benefits only unlockable with the card; and special AmEx offers on shopping, dining, and more. All of this means that if you're using a Macy's American Express card, you can easily stack up tons of Star Rewards points across all of your shopping, not only that at Macy's.
