Legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath is bringing runway-ready skin to the masses with her long-awaited foundation launch, which is set to drop this summer. With a hand in the designer foundation formulations of the likes of Dolce & Gabbana and Gucci, years of iconic runway and editorial looks, and one of the most respected names in the industry, McGrath is finally launching a system of her own.
The three-step system, cheekily named Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection, is set to launch July 26 on both her own website and Sephora.com. The 36-color foundation range took McGrath over 25 years to create, so you know it’s going to be good. It will include the Sublime Perfection Foundation ($68), five varying shades of Sublime Perfection Setting Powder ($55) and a universal one-shade Sublime Perfection Primer ($60). McGrath also created a specialized foundation brush ($55) and powder brush ($58) for a perfect, runway-worthy application.
So let’s get into exactly what makes this system so revolutionary, shall we? Pat McGrath Labs Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection The System reads:
“Indulge like an icon with a breakthrough Skin Perfecting System three decades in the making. A trio of simple steps unlock the Queen of Beauty’s game-changing approach to the ultimate No-Filter necessary skin ritual for Runway, Red Carpet and Editorial. Whether your fantasy is the minimal majorness of Mother’s iconic “No Makeup” Makeup or you love to lavish yourself in luxurious layers of seductive skinspiration, all you need to remember are three little words – Prime. Perfect. Set.”
By simplifying and streamlining the process, McGrath gives us access to the same system that works for the pros. The smoothing primer is infused with hydrating hyaluronic acid to add suppleness, elasticity, and a youthful tone to your skin. The primer is water-based and has a velvety matte finish, to create a perfect canvas for the foundation to work its magic.
The star of the show, The Sublime Perfection Foundation, offers a weightless finish with a serum like quality. Whether you’re a fan of a sheer coverage or like a makeup look with a bit more coverage, the formula allows for controlled and easy buildability. Infused with McGrath’s Vita-Serum Complex, the ultra-nourishing foundation helps to fight wrinkles with powerful hyaluronic acid and ceramides. Anti-aging and a perfect complexion, count us in!
Finish off your flawless application with the Sublime Perfection Setting Powder. McGrath created the finishing powder to match the collection’s range of hues, so those from the fairest of the fair to deep and darker complexions are all guaranteed a velvety finish that stays put. It’s created to mute the shine and blur fine lines and imperfections thanks to the power of Micronized Amino Acid pigments. Used with the collection’s other two products, the setting powder seals the deal for a light, soft-focus effect IRL.
As for why she landed on 36 shades, McGrath shared in a press statement that it’s simply the magic number needed. “As a makeup artist, we know the real amount of shades that we need when we’re doing 250 girls of all nationalities. According to professionals, this is the number. This is the full amount of colors I would have in my kit if I was going to cover the world,” she shared.
