As the walls continue to close in on Donald Trump, it seems Mike Pence wants to distance himself. The twice-impeached former president, 76, is currently being investigated for allegedly obstructing justice and violating the Espionage Act (as he reportedly took classified documents home with him), and Pence, 63, is appearing to keep his lips sealed on the matter as much as possible.
Last week, the former vice president was asked by the Associated Press if he had kept any classified documents from the White House, and he replied, “No, not to my knowledge.” These comments from Pence come weeks after the FBI executed a search warrant on Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s infamous Florida property.
Ex-Vice President Mike Pence says he didn’t take any classified information with him when he left office. Pence made the comment to @AP Friday after the FBI seized classified and top secret info in a search last week at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate. https://t.co/nVw0Yss8iT

Mike Pence tells @AP he didn’t take classified material with him when he left office. The disclosure, which would typically be unremarkable for a former VP, is notable given that such info was seized from his ex-boss’s home. Interview by @TomBeaumont https://t.co/Hf60GfIerq

As seen from items taken in the search, there were apparently 11 sets of classified documents found. The Wall Street Journal notes that some were labelled to be “top secret,” and the publication indicates that these papers should only be kept in special government facilities.
