Netflix is one of the most popular streaming platforms in the country, known for its diverse catalog of shows and movies, some of them being its original productions. However, subscribers are furious after it was recently revealed that they’ve decided not to continue making three popular shows.
Reports have come out that three well-known shows on Netflix are not going to be renewed for additional seasons, marking yet another disappointing update in the platform’s future. Once the announcement was revealed through entertainment news outlets, upset subscribers took to social media platforms like X to share their frustration, with many of them feeling like the shows they love don’t stick around the streaming service for too long, despite it being a massive platform. Read more about the show’s being let go and viewer reactions to the news below.
1. The Residence
The Residence was an exciting release for fans of mystery plotlines with a bit of comedy, as it followed a detective, played by Uzo Aduba, who was working to solve a wacky murder mystery within the White House. The fictional plot included conflicts among the staff members and residents of the famous residence, and combined the classic elements of a murder mystery with comedic bits and dialogue. It premiered towards the end of March and had a successful first season with eight episodes.
According to an article from Deadline, ratings weren't necessarily the reason for the show being canceled, as other factors, like the cost to produce the show, were in play. Either way, when fans heard the news, they were not happy.
"I just found out Netflix canceled The Residence and I've never been sadder because it is literally the best show I've ever seen," wrote an X user. "
I just found out Netflix canceled The Residence!" wrote another. "I wanted to see my girl solve another murder! This is outrageous!"

2. Pulse
Another Netflix original, this time, a medical drama, has also hit the chopping block on the streaming platform. With The Pitt, another extremely popular medical series getting Emmy nominations and excellent ratings on HBO Max, some entertainment professionals believe it never stood a chance. The show, which follows emergency and surgical residents at a fictional hospital in Miami, who are grappling with difficult situations as the city faces a hurricane. Despite it being overshadowed by other programs, there were still viewers who appreciated it and were sad to see it go after its first season aired in April.
"I don't want to rewatch Pulse on Netflix because every time I do, the show gets canceled the next day, and it's not the first time it's happened," wrote an X user.
"Nothing is safe," added another.

3. The Recruit
This one was a surprising cancellation for many, as it stars Gen Z heartthrob Noah Centineo. However, that wasn't enough to save it from the platform's rearranging and renewal process. The Recruit was a spy-action series that followed the dangerous adventures of a CIA lawyer, played by Centineo. This show had two seasons, with the first airing at the end of 2022 and the second released in January. But by March, it had been cancelled.
"Binge-watched The Recruit seasons 1 and 2 only to find out Netflix canceled season 3?" wrote an angry fan on X. "Are you kidding me? I love this show! Bring it back!"
"There's about a hundred shows on Netflix that should be canceled before this one," added another. What a terrible decision. I hope another platform picks it up."
We'll be curious to see what new series make their way onto the famous platform, but for now, there are many subscribers out there who are questioning whether or not it's worth it to pay for the service anymore.
