Nicole Kidman just posted a shocking throwback photo to social media to celebrate the life of the late photographer Herb Ritts, and the 54-year-old actress looked dramatically different in a cropped, windswept cut and dramatic eye makeup. Ritts was a well-known photographer in the 80’s and 90’s who was fond of capturing black and white images of models and celebs, and Kidman was a vision in the old snap from 1999.

Kidman took to Instagram to post the picture on Saturday, just 6 days before the late Ritts’ birthday. She captioned the carousel of three images, “Remembering Herb @HerbRitts,” posing in a simple tank top and denim skirt. The actress showed off her sensual side for the shoot, wearing significantly heavier eye makeup than usual and smoldering at the camera from behind a shock of wavy hair.
Fans and friends of Kidman flooded the comments praising both Ritts and the trio of images. Actress Rita Wilson wrote, “[His] photos were and are so beautiful. He made everyone look so gorgeous.” Singer songwriter Carole Bayer Sager also chimed in, commenting, “Beautiful and he was great x.”

Ritts passed away from complications with pneumonia at the age of 50 in 2002. Kidman also tagged Ritts’ Instagram account which features the late artist’s work, including another moody snap of Kidman from the 2001 Baz Luhrmann film, Moulin Rouge. In this set of images, Kidman looked nearly unrecognizable in a short black wig in character as Satine.
Kidman is gearing up for the release of her new Hulu original series Nine Perfect Strangers which is set to air on August 18. Based on the book by the same name by author Liane Moriarty, Kidman will play the mysterious director of a wellness resort which invites nine weary strangers to come and decompress from their busy lives under her guidance.
