Paintbox was already our go-to nail salon, but it just became sooo much better. The NYC-based nail art studio just unveiled its new Power Couples polishes on June 18, a collection of nail lacquers that are designed to be paired together to create a stunning nail look. This is Paintbox’s first-ever nail polish collection, a dream that CCO and Founder Eleanor Langston says took five years to get right.
“We have always wanted to launch nail polishes,” Langston tells SheFinds. “Power Couples has been five years the making after more than 117,000 manicures at 17 Crosby Street and thousands of shades tested. We found that our approach to color theory really resonated with our clients, so we wanted to launch nail polishes in modern, unexpected color pairings to help women treat their nails as accessories.”
The Power Couples Collection is comprised of eight universally-flattering shades that can be worn on their own or combined for a modern, trendy look. The line will be joining Paintbox's polish catalog in its flagship 17 Crosby location and featured in its seasonal nail art lookbook. Each Power Couple duo was inspired by real-life color palettes that Langston had encountered and was selected by Paintbox's nail artists.
"Our artists truly know what nail colors flatter all skin tones, unexpected shades that look beautiful together, and how to curate the best-of-the-best shades for women," Langston explains. "For our inaugural launch, I found inspiration from all over the world: a blood red velvet curtain in Paris inspired our Like Desire + Like Dreams Power Couple, the contrast of the sky meeting the grass inspired our Like Wild + Like Wonder Power Couple, and terracotta trends in interior design, as well as California in the 70s, inspired our Like Spice + Like Spring Power Couple."
The Paintbox team also used the same dedication and insights to develop the formula of the Power Couples polishes, which is a 10-free formula that is paraben-free, cruelty-free, vegan, and cruelty-free. Langston revealed that the brand consulted with its nail artists to ensure that every component of the polish was up to par. "They see first hand what customers like and don’t like. They were truly crucial to this process, as our artists are world-class talents," Langston says. They weighed in on important details such as the packaging, brush size and shape, and polish finish.
“Our long-lasting formula coats each nail with even, rich coverage,” says Evelyn Lim, Paintbox Chief Educator. “With its rounded, flexible bristles, the brush is able to pick up more lacquer for incredible efficiency and zero streaking–plus the arched bristles fan out slightly to cover the entire nail bed, as well as curve to your cuticles for a very seamless application.”
Langston said that the brand already has plans to expand its Power Couples Collection. Paintbox's inaugural polish pairs make up the Spring/Summer 2019 collection and the brand will be adding new color combinations seasonally in line with the fashion calendar, meaning that there are Pre-Fall, FW19, Holiday19 collections already slated for this year!
