The One Food You Should Be Having Every Morning To Build Skin Strength And Elasticity

One of the reasons your skin starts to show age is because it loses strength and elasticity. This is a cause behind wrinkles, sagging skin and even dark spots for some people. While hydrating skincare products and rejuvenating treatments can play a. huge role in restoring elasticity to the skin, one solution that often gets overlooked is diet.

Just like any other organ in the body, our skin responds to everything we eat or drink. While unhealthy, sugary foods may speed up the aging process on skin, eating the right vitamins, minerals and nutrients can strengthen the skin, restoring elasticity and promoting a more youthful appearance.

We spoke to Dr. Rachel Nazarian, skincare expert and board-certified dermatologist from New York City, to find out what morning foods we can eat to improve the health of our skin. And Dr. Nazarian said that it all boils down to antioxidants.

"I am such a huge fan of dietary high antioxidant sources," Dr, Nazarian told us. "And I drink one glass of pomegranate juice, which is one of my favorite sources of dietary antioxidants. Some studies have shown that these natural antioxidants can provide additional protection against UV damage and other environmental stressors that can prematurely age skin. I consider it part of my anti-aging regimen."

Antioxidants are also found in many healthy foods - particularly fruits and vegetables. You can take up Dr. Nazarian's advice by starting your day with a glass of pomegranate juice, or you can integrate antioxidants in other ways. 

Not a fan of juice? Try adding pomegranate seeds to yogurt, granola or even smoothies. You can also get antioxidants from blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, pecans or kale - among other foods.

Dr. Nazarian also noted that you can get antioxidants that help your skin from taking daily supplements.
